There's this whole thing in Heroes about Hiro's timetravel ability and what it means to the course of history, peoples' lives, and the show's idea of "destiny." It's set up in the first set of episodes that Hiro can't just go back in time and change things, as evidenced by his failed attempt to save Charlie.
However, it's also shown that timelines can be changed as evidenced by the successful "Save the cheerleader, save the world" message to Peter Petrelli from Future Hiro.
I think the important distinction is the person doing the changing. In the first example, Hiro goes back in time and tries to save Charlie through his own actions. He's a person from the future acting on his past. In the second example, however, it's Peter actively changing his present based on information from Future Hiro. A person who has moved into the past can't change their timeline because it would cause a time paradox (ie. if Hiro saved Charlie, she wouldn't have died and he would have no reason to go back in time and save her, so she would have died, etc).
So, Hiro does have the chance to stop the bomb (or help whoever does) because this is his timeline he's living, just with information from a future source (the events of Five Years Gone). Fate and Destiny can go screw off XD
I just felt the need to get that out there because it's not something I've seen anyone else on the various Heroes comms/boards mention.
