Had my first discussion with 2 of my biggest fans. River (yes I have a boy named River in my class, one of my biggest questions that I probably will never ask is if his parents were Firefly fans) and Ashley (dumb blonde stereotype, but smarter than she lets on) both have appointed themselves my Best Friends. Which is great, but they get clingy. Had to talk to them about that; I think that they're going to give me a little more personal space now.
So impressed by the 'specials' at this school. I've been to band, music, spanish, & PE and been impressed by the teacher in each one. Even gym. I'll admit to being a little flummoxed.
It's a Quaker school. So they had a 1/2 blocked for Meeting for Worship. And an entire school's worth of children, from Pre-k through 5th grade, filed into the auditorium silently and sat, silently, for a half hour. The spanish teacher shared a testimony 25 min in, and everyone turned to watch. The littlest kids then stood up, one after another, proclaimed "I love this school," and then climbed back up onto their pews, legs sticking out as they slid all the way back.
So, Cabrini. Their team is maybe 20 people, tops. It's not like we were going to lose to them. But we swam a full meet - 200s of strokes - because (this is the only theory I've been able to work out) Sue hasn't seen anyone swim anything yet, and she wants to keep us in a place where we remember how to race. Which, yeah, makes sense, but eghk. It could have been meet with fun events. For me at least, not so much. But whatever. I got to see Em, who I swam with at EHS, and we actually swam against each other in the 1000 and the end relay. (She asked that I not lap her more than twice in the 1000 - I only got her once, but I did get her once :)
1000 free: 11:42. Terrible time, but I did get 1st.
500 free: 5:43. Again with the terrible time. Came in 1st, but evidently we were beating them so badly by this point that all our girls were in as Exhibition. Psh. I swam that 500, and it hurt enough that it would be nice if we actually got the points for it.
50 free in the 200 free relay: 27.89. Honestly, that's decent for a 50 for me. I've hit 26 before, but I don't think this season. I'm pleased with it. Though we did arrange the relays so Em and I got to swim next to each other, and she got me by about half a second. Phooey :P Her relay caught mine overall, mine got 2nd.
Guys, I think I'm too old for this swimming thing. I retire in one month. And then I turn into a blob or swing dance an obscene amount. (Leaning towards the latter)
