there is a black y on my left hand and a purple x on my right

(and despite XY being a guy's chromosomes, I am still quite happily female)

An interesting 48 hours.  Got some of my teaching the diverse young learner stuff officially done, some of it combined so I can work on it with other people, and most of it in a non-freaking-out mode.  Class, however, was still pretty annoying.

Practice was decent, grabbed dinner and went to SCF, where one of the Engin seniors from last year spoke.  He's awesome - was in my last Siddiqui class and the wonderful person who was never afraid to ask 'stupid' questions.  So I got to hang out with the good people of SCF, then catch the end of a 16 Feet (guy's a cappella group) concert, where their guest group did Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (a fun swing song) and 16 Feet did Swarthmore Girl (www.youtube.com/watch) and ended with one of their graduating seniors doing Tik Tok.  (Which was pretty hilarious - think a lot of falsetto from a deep down bass).

And then I went and puttered with my NANO for a bit (I didn't write today, but before that I was on track) and went over to Paces for a friend's concert/a random birthday party for people I haven't talked to since freshman year.  So... awkward ensued.  But I bugged Sirkka, and she came and hung out with me until the band started, and when they did, we danced swing to the various songs.  Kinda funny.  The band is really good - except for the singer.  Think... Build me up buttercup in a death metal voice.  Yeah.  (Sirkka's recording for grad school next week, so she was doing a not-so-subtle covering-of-ears whenever the singer came in... which was often... which made grabbing her opposite hand a little weird.)

But somehow the party transformed into something that was a lot of fun.  I haven't been to a Paces party since last year, at least, and never one that was this entertaining.  Pretty much I grabbed people and danced with them - Harry, Sam(antha), Trevor - and ended up hanging out at the door chatting with Sam (who I don't know all that well, but is grumpy in my dev psych class and rather entertaining while tipsy, and who was the one marking people's hands).  Did a little bit of 'not-swing' dancing, but did enjoy it more when I got to swing.

Came back hyper, took some time to crash.  Actually slept in for once this semester (I'm tired but keep hitting a time where my brain says 'wake up now!' and I do.  Woke up for real when I heard my phone buzzing... evidently I can still hear it when it's on vibrate?  interesting.  Cas was calling - evidently Melinda quit the team.  So I spent the next half hour calling my captains and the rest of the seniors so that I could just make sure that they knew.

I completely understand why she did it - and I can't find it in myself to get angry at her.  Medical issues, too much work, knowing that swimming is one of those things that eats your life, too much stress... the list goes on.  Hopefully I'll get to chat with her tomorrow.

But it meant that the meet we were supposed to have today needed to be reshuffled, and looked like it would be close.  This was McDaniel.  Nothing against their team, but THERE IS NO WAY I WAS GOING TO LOSE TO MCDANIEL.  So Crazy-Allison may have come out during our little pre-meet-get-together
(I believe that the quote was "McDaniel is not a team that we should have to kill ourselves to beat.  But you know what?  i'm going to ask you to kill yourselves to make sure that this happens.  I'll... magic you all better or something, but we are winning this meet."  Jackie backed me up with something a little more profane, and it was good.)

We did win the meet, by a lot.  A lot of good swims, nice and fast.  People swimming fast while ill, while tired, etc.  Plus winning!
I did decently - 2nd in the 1000 to Sas, with an 11:32.  2nd in the 200 to Erin, with a 2:08 (and out-touching not one but TWO McDaniel girls.  Also, 1000 and 200 are back to back, which is always fun).  3rd in the 500 to both Erin and Sas, 5:41.  Time was terrible, but eh.  Got the place I needed.

Then I got to hang out with Mom and Cori - went out to dinner (real food!) and then went to a tiny bit of the Parrish Dormal and then in to the city for Fish Fry.  (Danced with Andy, and Graham!)  Beautiful day (though I got absolutely nothing done!)

And now it is bedtime, and I have an interview in the morning.  Cross your fingers for me?

swing, 200, 1000, party, scf, 500, teach for america, fish fry, dancing, education, swim meet, a cappella
