Weekend and Weekbeginning

So... Saturday. Helped pick up the mess left over from the party (this is in the morning morning, not 2 am morning, when I also did this... we have a deposit on the space and they take it away if they have to get it cleaned)... and I managed to fall and scrape my knee. Automatic 1st grade flashback: I used to play kickball in my pretty dresses, and EVERY DAY I'd fall, rip another pair of tights, and skin my knee.

Lovely. So: Allison's body, 0; Universe, 1.

Went to the Psi Phi meeting (parody of Phi Psi, one of our 2 frats; used to be SWIL but... it's ... not. anymore. science fiction/fantasy club anyway) and arranged to take over Bug Eyed Magazine (or Unicorn Star. or Unicron Star, which is it's current name, and supposedly ties to Star Trek?. Or... we're rather partial to Purple Flying Dik-Diks. Because, face it, ridiculousness gets people to read things. And we were thinking of trying to change it to 'Purple Flying ________' each semester... but it would mean that I'd have to break out the drawing stuff and draw a small purple antelope with wings :).

Went to fencing practice; realized that I should have done some footwork over the summer (in my... oodles... of spare time), and was in pain. Got to act as a poking dummy for some freshies (we have lots!). Was actually a lot of fun, but a little shocking at how out-of-shape I am/was.

Stumbled through the rain to dinner, felt disgusting and sweaty and wet. Food was good, though.

Sat in my room for an hour or so, then went down to the contra. In the rain. Eh, still okay, decide to dance in my socks. Go through the first half of the dance - only the man twice! Though I should get myself a mustache like one of the girls have - a feather on a string - to make sure no one gets confused (we always outnumber the boys). Which means that I was dancing with actual boys for several dances :)

As a segway: I don't know what to do about Nick. I'm running into him everywhere - fencing, contra, swing - but I still can't tell if he's really nice to me because I'm friends with his friends, or because... yeah.

Back to the story:
So I sit down after the waltz with Sirkka, and one of the musicians' sons' books, and manage to find a Dr. Seuss book that I've never read: The Butter Battle Book. It's about escalation in warfare. Which all starts because someone butters their bread on the wrong side. Written during the Cold War - so creepy! We argue over which side the russians are; but agree to dance the next one after the break... though when we get up to join the lines, both of my feet, and both of hers, have rebelled. Feel like giant blisters all over the part right behind my toes... urk. So I went back and crashed.

After a solid 12 hours of sleep they were better... though I was kind of limping from fencing. Ended up late to church, but there was a picnic afterwards :) Watched part of the boy's soccer game (they're actually really amazing to watch - I should do so again) and got sunburnt; had Daddy come and bring me all the stuff I forgot earlier (yay! And pear cobbler, which I was not expecting but was super amazing!) worked on engin homework. For a very long time.

Our wizards (yes, our help groups have silly names - mathmeticians are pirates - can you guess why?) helped me through the last ones, and I went on to continue my Goethe reading for this week.

Backfisch in German: flapper/young miss

The door into my dorm room has been named Faust. Obviously it has made a deal with the devil, since it keeps randomly locking/unlocking itself.

Hm. What else. I made it to Engin on time; got complimented on my trimming skills in Ceramics, learned that handles don't have to be ridiculous to fit my idea of the form, and threw a pseudogoblet. (It's all one piece, and doesn't quite come together at the bottom of the bowl. I may fix that... may just trim the bottom so I can have liquid all the way up.) Got my meal plan changed. Went to swimming and fencing and swing tonight. Tired. Feet hate me again, though not so badly as Saturday.

Have to finish Goetz von Berlichingen tomorrow before class (I'm in act 4 of 5). And write practice for tomorrow. But that's it. Sleeping in til whenever.

( Sorry to clutter f-lists, but Finn doesn't believe in cutting things.)
