It's offical, making BM2 (2nd class petty officer, basically getting promoted) on july 1st. I'm pretty excited. 3 days less than 2 years from shipping to boot camp, and I've gone from E-1 to E-5...I'm pretty happy with where I am right now.

See, I've got this thing called "Liberty," wherein I'm not on the boat any more and won't be until Monday. But, since you posted that you made it, I called the duty section and got the good news.

Now shut yer cock holster.

Hey, when do you rotate? AY08 or 09?

Grats by the way, you probably should have made it a long time ago.

I'm scheduled for 08, but there's a lot involved with that.

One is my OCS application. Could be leaving in January.

Two is the cross-deck - TEMPEST is getting returned to the Navy next year, and the ZEPHYR is getting homeported in P-goula. So, most of the TEMPEST crew will just cross deck over to the ZEPHYR.

Three is that every single petty officer in the deck department - including the Chief 1LT, is supposed to rotate next year.

So, I may request a one-year extension and fleet up into the BM2 slot. I'll be on the ZEPHYR by then, but I'll also be able to make OOD and use that to transfer to an 87 or 110.

I'm still unsure about it all. I could, conceivably, get my OOD letter earlier. If I decide to rotate next year I'll put in for the Bahrain slots as my top pick, and any station in NC as the rest.

When do you rotate? Are they letting you transfer on the +/- 1 rule?

I rotate in AY 08 as well. I doubt I'll short tour, even if I did, another year isn't terrible.

Is the Zephyr another navy PC?

If you plan on making this a career, and OCS falls through (which I doubt it will for you), then going PB to PB might not be the best idea, sort of shooting yourself in the foot when you are forced to a small boat station as a BM1. I plan on going to a station next, then going for OPS/XPO of a PB as a 1st after that. Then screening for combined command after that.

Yeah, the ZEPHYR and MONSOON are the two other PCs we got, homeported in San Diego. The extension of the elase agreement says we return 2 and get to keep the other three. It looks like the MONSOON and TEMPEST will be returned to the Navy, and we'll keep the SHAMAL, TORNADO, and ZEPHYR and have all three homeported in Pascagoula.

I know the PB to PB doesn't sound like a really smart move, but the thing is, if I stay in, I'm going to want to aim for multimission afloat OINC. My command here has already told me that if I make coxswain of our small boat, they'll defer the BM1 requirement to make coxswain of a standard boat.

I just don't see it being very detrimental against me - I can go from this PB, screen for XPO afloat, go to a 110' as XPO. Then shoreside XPO at a station, and screen for OINC afloat as a Chief.

But then again, I also expect to make OCS within a year from now. So it all may be a moot point.
