X-mas card reminder and Dalek Invasion of Earth

Just saw this subject line while I was checking my spam filter: "Doctor Approved and Recommended". Oh yeah :-P

Also, if you'd like me to send you a Christmas card but don't know if I have your address or not you post it in my X-mas card poll in this post.

Feel a bit queasy today. My head's been aching for a few days now, and today my stomach seems to be acting up a bit. I'd don't think I'm really getting sick, but I still feel a bit meh.

I'm getting into the mood to start my annual reading of "The Lord of the Rings", but I really should wait until the Christmas holidays - I'll have more time then, and can spend hours on end in my room reading *sighs whistfully*. I could re-read the Harry Potter books in the mean time ...

Finished The Dalek Invasion of Earth the other night - I actually really liked it (though it was a bit slow at times). The First Doctor somehow reminds me of Yoda, but then maybe that's just me, hmm?

[x] Daleks! I have a thing for those little tin dustbins - though I had to laugh out loud when the first one came out of the water. What on Earth was he doing there anyway?

[x] The beginning of the first episode: the "don't dump boddies in the water" sign, and then the robomen just wandering into the water - chilling.

[x] Dalek chace over Westminster Bridge: I thought that whole sequence was really amazing (and especially funny since I just was in London recently). Loved the drum music and the absence of sound (chilliconcarne pointed out that this was probably due to the sound of traffic in the background, but still, cool.) Weird seeing Big Ben and Trafalgar Square + Daleks.

[x] There was some good music in this series - especially the chace sequence in the third episode, and the climax in the sixth.

[x] The robomen were rubbish :-) - but fun rubbish, and the idea itself was good (and quite chilling, as in the scene were the one guy meets his robotiesed brother).

[x] Loved the cooky idea of stealing the magnetic core of the Earth :-P ... yeah right ...

[x] I really liked Barbara in this - independant, resourceful - and driving a lorry! Go Barbara! The scene in the last episode, where she tries fool the Daleks, reminded me a bit of Rose in The Christmas Invasion

[x] Liked Ian as well (hhmmmm)

[x] I seem to be developing a soft spot for the First Doctor. I remember not really liking him in the first story I saw him in (The Unearthly Child), but he seems to be growing on me. And yes, Yoda.

[x] Susan/David - I didn't know beforehand that this was the episdoe in which Susan leaves, but I began to suspect it when I saw the two of them flirting :-). I liked how the relationship was developed over the episodes (and check out the snogging behind the Doctor's back, plus embarrassed scrambling afterwards :-)). And the ending was quite hearbreaking. The Doctor leaving a companion behind for the first time (in this case even his granddaughter), albeit for their own good (or what he things is their own good). The whole goodbye scene was quite touching, I thought, and well played. *sniff*

I'm sure there was more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. I'm in the mood for some more First Doctor now - question is, The Edge of Destruction or The Web Planet.
