I've been in Oregon for 6 years now and I don't remember ever having weather like this before. All these wind storms. Rain yes, but big nasty wind storms don't seem familiar to me. But we've got another one blowing in tonight and it's already getting pretty gusty where I am. Power is flickering on and off already, and it's really not that bad yet. The "high wind warning" was supposed to start more like 5pm I thought. We were out power for about an hour on Monday night too, another stormy night. Studying for finals is oh so romantic when you have to do it by candlelight. I have a good feeling tonight is going to be very romantic - just me and my perception notes and my sandlewood and cedar candles. I'll probably be more producive though - no electricity means no internet, no tv... oh, and no food. Hmmm...

The school sent out an email about what would happen if they have to close the school tomorrow. Which I guess they would do because of lack of electricity. Our exam are actually pencil and paper though, and you can see pretty well just by the window light, so I kind of hope it's not cancelled. If so, we have to take this last exam our first day back, which would be annoying.

Three hikers are stranded on top of Mt Hood and have been for almost a week now. The know where one is, because his cell phone occasionally "pings." The other two tried to get down and nobody knows where they ended up. It's raging up there, and the rescuers can't get anywhere near the top. It sounds like all three are very experienced though, so I hope they mananged to make really solid snowcaves before spending one long week waiting for help while listening to storm after storm rage around them. I don't understand extreme mountaineering in the slightest. Climbing the summit of Mt Hood doesn't appeal to me in August. It sure as hell doesn't sound like a fine idea in December. Anyway, any time I start feeling sorry for myself huddled up in my warm studio cave studying for exams, I think of those three men and realize that's it's not me having the longest most craptacular week ever.
