Is anybody else tired of all the inauguration coverage yet?
It's all Obama all the time pretty much everywhere, and I'm over it. Look, I voted for him, too. I'm glad he won and will be President. But the guy's not a Messiah. Or a Prophet. He's just a guy, no matter how much he wraps himself in the mantle of Lincoln and MLK.
I'm more than a little worried that it's all gone to his head. He seemed like a cool customer during the campaign, someone who could keep his head out of the clouds with all the hoo-ha spinning around him. Now I'm not so sure.
There's no way in hell Obama can live up to the expectations piled on him. Not a chance. I wish he could, I really do. This country -- the world -- needs a leader who can rise to the occasion and get us out of this mess. Even if Obama is one who could do it, there's no one else around to help. FDR had Churchill. Lincoln had his generals and Douglass. Washington had Jefferson and Madison and Franklin and Hamilton and ....
So. Yeah. I'll try and watch the inauguration tomorrow while I'm at work. I have a place to crash in DC, but that can't happen. I even have a party in Decatur I could go to, but that ain't hap'nin' either.
I plan on withholding judgment on the Awesomeness of President Obama until after he's out of office, or at least until after he's actually, you know, done something. But wouldn't it be great if he actually pulls this off? Hope indeed.
