Anyone else gonna be watching the votes come in? I'll be dividing my attention between the SOS site, Fresh Loaf's liveblog from Manny's and the All Star Game.
Unfortunately, the ASG is being played at Yankee Stadium and broadcast on FOX. Tim McCarver is going to be insufferable. Maybe I'll mute it and listen to the new Hold Steady album instead.
The polls closed nearly two hours ago. It's still too early to call anything yet. Neither Fulton nor DeKalb has reported. Chatham County (Savannah) is still out there in the 12 CD race. The 10 CD race is interesting; Broun is doing well in Richmond County (Augusta), which isn't his base. Vernon Jones is doing well in Richmond and Muskogee (Columbus) counties, but is still behind Jim Martin.
9:07 - still nothing from DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett; Broun is doing very very well with 47% counted - if Fleming doesn't close soon, it'll be over; Powell is up huge in the PSC race - I wonder what will happen to his residency ruling if he wins
9:35 - going into the top of the 4th innning, the ASG is scoreless. Chipper and HanRam have the NL's only hits.
9:37 - with 46% of precincts reporting, including nearly half of Fulton County, Jones has overtaken Martin by a few hundred votes ; it's looking more and more like a Jones/Martin runoff is in the cards as they are both at 37% and Dale Cardwell is in third with just 15% ; meanwhile, the Dem PSC 4th race is over, with Powell up 86-14
9:42 - 47% reporting and Martin leaps back up on top by 56
9:45 - in the congressional races, Broun has won reelection in the 10th CD - there are still lots of precincts yet to be counted in Richmond County, but Broun is up by 18,000 votes ; John Lewis has 65% of the votes with a third of the precincts in ; Barrow has crushed Thomas down in the 12th
9:54 - Matt Holliday just hit an opposite-field home run and the NL is up 1-0 in the 5th.
9:56 -
Fulton County results are coming in - Robinson is leading for Superior Court Clerk with 46%, Pittman is at 21% ; here's hoping there's a runoff ; the sheriff race has incumbent incompetent Freeman leading with 30%, Jackson has 18%, Brown 16%, Rambo 15%, so it's a race for the second slot in the runoff against Freeman
10:10 - looks like the General Assembly's incumbents will hold serve in their primaries, with one notable exception - Nancy Schaefer is in real trouble up in SD 50 - she's in second, down 43-32-24 ; locals may remember that she declared for the 10th CD race, vacating SD 50, only to change her mind after two people jumped in to fill the vacuum ; she'll make the runoff, but it's touch and go when an incumbent can only win the second slot in a runoff
10:13 - one more incumbent in trouble: Steve Davis down in HD 109 (Henry County) ; with one district left, he's up by just 128 votes ; he should win, but that's quite a scare
10:24 - the Big Three counties are slacking big time: fewer than half the precincts in Cobb and Fulton have reported, and DeKalb is 0 for 199 ; that's good news for Vernon Jones and must be driving the candidates for DeKalb CEO batshit crazy - maybe the winner's first task will be to kick the county elections board's ass into gear
10:27 - the night isn't technically over, but I'm done here - few races are particularly close (except maybe PSC 4 on the GOP side) - so there isn't much to wonder about that I'm interested in
10:42 - OK, maybe not.
DeKalb is finally off and running with 100/199 precincts in ; Burrell Ellis only has 46% in the CEO race, so he'll face Stan Watson in the runoff ; and with 9/14 precincts from Dunwoody reporting, 82% are voting in favor of incorporation, to no one's shock
