new monitor

I called in to work "I don't feel like coming in today." Why beat around the bush with "I need a mental health day" or some lame fib about a stomach bug? I was going to do this a couple of weeks ago, but then I really did get a stomach bug or something that morning.

I really didn't feel like going in today, but the real reason I played hooky was that my computer monitor kicked the bucket late last night and I needed a new one. It was an old 17" CRT monitor (old skool, yo!) because when I got the Mac mini three years ago, I needed an actual monitor (after many years of an iMac) that could show pictures with decent color and the flat screens I could afford weren't going to cut it.

So I went to Best Buy today and picked up a flat screen, which apparently are so totally awesome now that BB doesn't even bother carrying anything else. I didn't get the cheapest one (it was too yellow), but the next-cheapest was still $230, dammit. But it'll do the job. It's an LG Flatron, 19" widescreen thing. It's also 1440x900, which is new for me and means I'll be able to see vertical graphics that are 720 pixels tall, which I couldn't do on the dead monitor.

And then I bought a new microwave. The one taking up space on the kitchen counter sucks ass. I don't think I've even had it plugged in for months. So now I can get popcorn and nukeable dinners and actually (try to) eat them at home. First, though, I have to remember to take it out of the car trunk.

I even got the car emissions done and will send off the ad valorem tax tomorrow. I still need to give the dog a bath as I've threatened to do since the weekend, but it's too late for that tonight. I was going to vacuum, too, but I took a nap instead. A much better choice, I think.
