I love spending three grand. I'll get a big chunk back from Mom, but still.
The consolidator website turned out to be a farce. Though it claimed $475 round trip to Prague, after taxes and fees it was more like $1050 unless we were willing to take three planes or leave at 6:00 am. Instead, I used Orbitz and got $1025 including insurance (at Mom's insistence) with an evening flight out of ATL and layover in Paris (CDG), arriving in PRG in the early evening; the flight back is nonstop with a noon departure. Not nearly as good as what
missy_carter found to Madrid, but we're leaving in September instead of October. And nobody's running super duper awesome specials to Prague.
I had weird trouble getting the hotel online. It wouldn't take my credit card for some reason. The main Best Western customer service didn't have access to the web-only rate and kept trying to sell me their own special rate for $10/night more. Sorry - ten bucks is lunch every day. My credit card company couldn't figure it out, either. In the end, I had to reboot the page and start over. That worked. Go figure.
So. Leave Atlanta the night of September 19, arriving in Prague in the evening the next day. Returning September 27. Coincidentally, that's my dad's 60th birthday. Hope he doesn't want me to buy him dinner. Or a trip to Europe.
