find semi-official results here The AJC finally (finally) has dedicated a few precious bytes of bandwidth to the General Assembly elections in
yesterday afternoon's post in the "Political Insider" blog. There, they corroborate and expand on what I was talking about
yesterday.
Basically, not only did every incumbent hold his/her seat, but the GOP picked up two vacant seats in the House (though it looks like the SoS site is showing the exact same numbers as yesterday). What PI adds, that I had completely forgotten, was that in May, four Reps defected from the Democrats to the Republicans. That means, for all intents and purposes, the GOP picked up six seats in the House.
The final tally:
Senate
R- 34
D- 22
House of Representatives
R- 106
D- 74
Before anyone heaves a sigh of relief that at least the GOP doesn't hold a 2/3 majority in either chamber, I should remind you that the (anti-) gay marriage amendment passed the House back in 2004 - when the Democrats still held the majority there.
This morning's PI post talks about the potential Cagle-Johnson battle for control of the Senate. "[A]pparently there’ll be no internal struggle over the issue," it says, following up with a quote from Cagle.
But there's no word from Johnson.
