Sitting primly in the carriage, Irene crossed her hands in her lap, a coy smile playing quietly across her face ( ... )

Sherlock wasn't really surprised that she dove right into trying to bait him, but he pressed on as if he hadn't heard it, though the message was clear that he wasn't going to walk into her trap. "Precisely as we wished, yes," was all he said instead. His eyes slid over as she took off her gloves, but riveted immediately forward again.

"I trust you're content with returning to Baker Street?" They hadn't even discussed the idea of a "honeymoon", and he hadn't really given it any thought. It seemed yet another impractical step to be avoided to his mind. "Mrs. Hudson should be following behind. I'm certain she can provide us something celebratory for dinner."

Irene nodded curtly, placing her hands on her lap, tilting them in almost a playful display as if she had caught his minute glance.

Which, of course, she had.

"I'm sure whatever Mrs. Hudson prepares will be more than appropriate," she agreed, glancing out the window idly. The London morning whipped by, people milling about as if nothing in the world had changed, even though, for Irene, it had. But to her comfort, it didn't feel all that different.

She glanced back at Holmes, tilting her head. "What would you make of us getting away for a while?" she asked. Even though Irene was more than content with a simple wedding, that didn't mean she was going to let the honeymoon go. After all, one chance to travel was as good as any. "A bit of escape is good for the spirit, I think."

Her suggestion was met with a skeptical glance at first, as he judged whether she had some ulterior motive or not.

"Escape from what, precisely?" he asked. "My spirits are rejuvenated through work more often than through avoiding it." There was the slightest contemptuous insinuation present in his tone, that implied his opinion of anyone who was prone to the opposite.
