I...haven't posted since the great walkout. Well.
In brief:
I did look into filing something (either a complaint or a beginning lawsuit), but you basically can't get someone into trouble just for being an asshole, which is what was at the heart of the case. However, I got my revenge -- the dude was "moved to another area" (i.e. yanked out of power) a few weeks later (but not before he blew the department's budget on iPads for his pets). Two months after that, mass layoffs began, and a month after that, the company shuttered its extra offices and consolidated in LA, thereby screwing all who remained.
Not gonna lie -- I chuckled.
I am still doing the freelance thing. Picked up some additional clients. It is slow going. Trying to build a website, a web presence (this old LJ is not included), send query letters to agents, etc. It is rewarding in the sense that I'm my own boss. I have managed to keep my apartment for the time being. It's more day to day than I'd like, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that traditional 9-5 jobs don't have a lot of security anymore, either. Granted, they're not slapped with the self-employment tax.
I now have a little pet. On January 1, I wandered into a pet store just to look at the pretty birds, and a little cockatiel started talking to me. I ended up taking her home on the 2nd. Her name is Juno, she mimics my sneezes and sings the Imperial March, among other things, and generally keeps me from going batty while I'm alone during the day.
So, in a nutshell: Am alive, if anyone still reads this, am working, am in need of more coffee. (What else is new?)
