I am trying to find a place to live.
This is made slightly difficult by Orange County.
I need to find something I can afford and a place I can feel safe in. This rules out most of Santa Ana, Westminster, and parts of Tustin...as well as Newport and Irvine. Those are the primary cities that I can access work from without going absolutely batshit.
I did look at Huntington Beach, but it gets extremely congested - not much fun - and if you're not right near the beach, it's kind of scuzzy. Long Beach is too far. The best I could hope for in Newport or Irvine is someone with a back house, and that's not popping up on my searches.
So I'm centering around Orange.
Then there's the bird.
Back when my parents were searching for housing in San Diego, "no pets" affected the dog. When apartment/house owners heard about birds, they went "oh, that's fine."
Apparently in Orange County, no pets means NO PETS EVER, INCLUDING YOUR SILENT LITTLE AVIAN, SUZ.
There's lots of pet-friendly apartments in San Clemente, some of them quite affordable, but at that point it's a bitch of a drive. I guess there's always the Toll Road (73 goes right by my work) but I can see that costing a fortune and a half - and the company, of course, won't cover it. Maybe it's worth looking into.
I am checking out an older duplex tomorrow, one that is OK with birds. There's a bigger complex down the street that seems quite nice (and affordable) but the manager's a flake. There's also a property management group in Orange I sort of got to know; the issue is getting to them.
Meh.
