Fugged

Hokay, so, because I'm a complete and total dork, and because this has been bugging me, off and on for months now, I want to clear something up.  Please, hold your hands up to your faces so that I can't see how hard you're laughing at the ridiculousness of me.

Remember the most obvious typo in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince?  Something like, "His breath fugged the glass of the window"?

For a long time, such a glaring typo bothered me.   I read the new Terry Pratchett book recently (Going Postal) and it was in there too.  Turns out, it's an actual word.  Or, "fug" is, anyway.  Means: "A heavy, stale atmosphere, especially the musty air of an overcrowded or poorly ventilated room: “In spite of the open windows the stench had become a reeking fug”"

According to Webster, I guess she didn't use it quite properly, but there you go.  I've only seen it in books by british authors, so maybe it's kind of... slangy.  Who knows.

So... I know that I might be the only one book-nerdish enough to worry about this for this long, but there it is.  Please return to your regularly scheduled mocking... now.

fugged, harry potter
