In which I try to master the art of the LJ cut. I used to be savvy with all the code but some of that knowledge has been lost to time.
Lately Lucy has been going wild for a sparkly pom pom we got as part of a bag of cat toys. So naturally I ordered a whole bag of them off Amazon and presented them to him. In true cat fashion, he showed no interest in them.
They are enjoying them a bit more now though, so there are pom poms all over the house!
Cornelia recently went on an inadvertent adventure. So our cats have always been indoor cats, since we've usually lived in urban areas with lots of cars and other things that could cause harm to the cats. It's just safer. But recently we moved to a house with a back garden in a sleepy little village and we've been slowly introducing our cats to the outdoors a bit. We don't plan to let them roam outdoors freely but the garden is walled by 6 foot fences so they're unlikely to escape - plus we never see any other cats coming into the garden, which is good. I suppose they could escape if they really wanted to - after all, they're cats, the Houdinis of the pet world. But we also trim their nails so I don't think they'd have the easiest time climbing the smooth wooden fences.
Anyway, after I went to sleep my partner took our youngest cat Luna downstairs to show her the garden. It was the middle of the night and Cornelia followed him and while the back door was open, she snuck out. It was dark and she's a tortoiseshell, so for all intents and purposes she's basically a black cat and harder to see in the dark. My partner came back in with Luna and closed the back door.
The next morning I woke up to feed the cats and Lucy and Luna were meowing at me as usual. Cornelia was noticeably absent and I figured "eh, maybe she's just not hungry yet." After a little while though I wondered where Corny was hiding so I began to look around the house for her. Being the ball of anxiety that I am, my panic started to rise when I checked behind every piece of furniture, every closet, even the fridge and still couldn't find her. I looked through the window of the back garden but I didn't open the door. After all, how could she have gotten outside? I had no idea my partner had opened the back door the night before as I had been sleeping at the time. I eventually woke him up and told him that Corny was missing. "Oh no", he murmured.
He got up and unlike me, he did open the back door and lo and behold, poor Corny was huddled in a corner out of line of sight, where I hadn't spotted her.
Thankfully it had been a fairly mild night. It hadn't rained and Corny hadn't escaped or wandered off anywhere. Poor girl was just waiting outside the back door all night! She came back in, had lots of food and slept it off. So now we're doing rigorous "cat checks" every time a door in the house gets opened and my partner is no longer doing midnight adventures with them, haha.
Luckily Corny hasn't lost her taste for the outdoors, she's by far the most curious and adventurous of the cats. Looking forward to warmer weather so we can spend more time in the garden with them!
Over & out, for now.
