Tonight. Ted Nugent. Magic City Music Hall in Johnson City. Very interesting.
I've been meaning to head down to Magic City for the last year or so, since I couldn't figure out where on Harry L. Drive they could fit a concert hall--they fit it where Chuck E. Cheese used to be. Things have changed since I lived in that neighborhood. But I digress.
Ted was preceded by Alex Winston, who wasn't bad at all.
Ted, however, was certainly who the crowd was waiting for. He owned them. They brought their families (and Magic City is a BAR!). All this from the man who "rocks his ass off between hunting seasons."
There were a few surprises. He opened with Journey to the Center of the Mind--remember the Amboy Dukes? I've got that one on a 45. In between newer songs he dropped in covers of The Kinks (You Really Got Me) and The Blues Brothers!?! (Soul Man). It was a little weird to have him referring to the audience as "boys" and "white people," though. Overall--loud, but entertaining.
And the flying pig? He was plastic, with butterfly wings. Suspended on a wire in the area just in front of the bar swaying in the wind from the single fan . . .
