1 If I could speak in any language in heaven or on earth but didn't love others, I would only be making meaningless noise like a loud gong or a clanging cymbal

took a history of the bible class when i was in college. loved it. in the original greek the bible (the new testament) probably made a lot more sense. and i would imagine the same holds for the Torah and its original hebrew.
i do love this though. i dig it out from the depths of my brain when my 'christian' friends are being obnoxious. its all about love people. all about love.
i try not to whip out any religion or religious knowledge because it tends to just make people more angry. but sometimes its necessary to point out hypocrisy to the hypocrite.
it was supposed to teach us how to counter other religions when christianity was questioned
but to teach it properly, they first had to question christianity to us. so not only did i learn the hardest questions for an intelligent christian to answer, i learned the answers so i could know how to further counter them.
i would have loved that class. imagine... something useful that you learned in high school.
though i learned how to balance my checkbook while i was in high school so it wasn't all a waste of time. but i learned that particular life skill from my band director, so what does that tell you?
lol i went to high school back in ohio. cuyahoga valley christian academy.
i'd assume it's equivalent from your neck of the woods would be oaks christian, which i snicker at every time i drive past on the 101. think saved only IRL and without dancing.
my school left me with such an awful taste in my mouth about christianity
(a teacher thanking god for matthew shepard and using terribly hateful words in the prayer when i was 14 was plenty for me)
i prefer to think of myself as spiritually agnostic... i don't attend church but i read bits of all religions and have a wee buddhist shrine on my dresser, a rosary hanging beside my bedroom door and a bible on my bookshelf.
I've found that I'm much too open minded to continue to go to church here in Vegas. Part of the reason I'm so desperate to move is to try to find a better church. I lucked out in that Dane feels the same way so we're both looking for something better. I'm still a Christian despite the odd standards set by Vegas and the modern church.
I feel like in my life I've seen the best and the worst of christianity and the best was never good enough to make me want to sit through the bad, i guess.

part of the whole christian high school thing... no one expects that either though
but it's like i said to sophie, it's not an issue of religion, it's an issue of equality and rights. not of whether or not your god ordains it.
