Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Ouch.Ouch.Ouch.

I really liked it, it nailed me at my chair one episode after another. It was very good, powerfull and chilling. The things that the politicians and civil servants have doing, all the response of the common people... that was gutting. I think it's very good TV even if isn't the Torchwood I love (wich is a bit cheesy, a bit rubbish, very funny and dark - but not SO dark).

Some random considerations:

-Ianto's death is very Torchwood-style: what kind of idiot march in a room with a enemy that can release a letal virus without protections, knowing that all you are going to do is shouting that they are bluffing? But of course, Captain Jack Harkness and his merry crew. The death scene in se doesn't impressed me very much (except for the swaying part), but the death? Hell, it's like Half Blood Prince (and Deathly Hallows) all over again. Bring on the resurrection fics, guys. I'm going to devour them.

-I'm very happy that Rhys managed to survive, I love the guy. He and Gwen are a lovely couple, funny, and matter-of-fact.

-On the other hand: damn Rhys and his beans!

-Gwen was a surprise, a good one. I've never been a Gwen-basher, but also I never really warm to her. Now I like her very much, big heart and all, even if I cringed every time she was a bit too super-cop.

-I liked (or at last, not disliked) every new character in it, but even if I like her I don't want Lois to join the Torchwood staff.

-They made Ianto showing off his angsty-woobie-and-broody-self a bit too much for my taste, but I loved that he lied about his father job, that concealed the things that he didn't liked about his past and invented a glossy scenario for himself (and that his sister can break in and out of his shiny mask without effort). Complex character underexplored (Tosh, anyone?), thank goodness for the fanfictions.

-The finale... Ouch, again. They managed, for the first time, to make me feel Jack's pain. They made with Steven and Alice that thing that they had failed with Gray. I can see that Jack had to go away, that he cannot stay on earth anymore. At his eyes he failed to be the person that he was tryng to be (that he belived to be) for the Doctor, for his friends, for himself: now he belives himself the monster that Ianto and Gwen accused him to be in the past. Ouch.
I'm very curious to see him in the DW special this year, please don't disappoint me dismissing the problem, Show!

-And at last, but not at last: WHERE ARE MYFAWNY and JANET?!

EDIT (a little clarification): I use to call Torchwood "the hole with the plot around": I liked it not for the gaping storyline, but for the characters, all of them. Then first Tosh and Owen, now Ianto (and, in some degree, Jack) have gone away. I'm not "mourning" one specific death, but the whole show as we know it, even if enjoyed a lot the new format.
