Once again I have only 2 real issues with Heyer. They're not really criticisms. More like quibbles.

1. Seriously, wtf is with all the gray eyed heroes and heroines? Huh. Google tells me that apparently giving people gray eyes was the thing to do in Victorian literature. Except Heyer wasn't Victorian. And she was writing primarily about the Regency era. I would totes have been in vogue for Victorians.

2. I never feel like the hero and heroine have enough time together. I almost always like the ending and like the couple but I'm always left a little dis-satisfied. Perhaps it's just because I enjoy the story so much I just wish to spend more time with them.

Mostly I really enjoyed the story. I did get a little bored during Amanda's adventures but as it was leading up to Gareth and Hester actually being in the same room together for more than a minute I persevered.

The last scenes desperately cracked me up. I would've loved to have more of Hester.

I felt like I wasn't supposed to like Lady Widmore but I thought she was kind of fantastic and had this been a more modern novel she and Hester would've been best friends. As it was I felt like Lady Widmore was the only relation of Hester's who even remotely understood her and whom Hester even liked a little bit.
