[WHO] Sophie-Anne Leclerq & OPEN [WHERE] Lobby of the Mezzo Hotel [ABOUT] The sun takes its toll on a stubbon vampire queen. [WARNINGS] Um, language and possible violence? ---
A small but firm hand caught her elbow before her sleeve could make contact with the blood. "Don't do that or you'll ruin it," he said, offering her a handkerchief instead. "Here."

Sophie-Anne's first instinct was to let her fangs out and snarl, grab that hand and twist it away from her by the wrist. How dare someone touch her! But, it soon registered that this person meant no harm and was simply trying to prevent her from staining one of the few nice outfits she had in this dreadful place with the blood that wouldn't bee coming from her person if she weren't so stubborn and actually went to ground.
She doesn't harm him or recoil from that touch at her elbow, but smiles gratefully - even somewhat genuinely - instead, taking that handkerchief and dabbing at her nose with it. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. Are you all right, miss?" Kid asked, golden eyes watching her steadily. He must've presented an odd sight in his neat little suit, his attitude a lot older than his physical appearance suggested -- except for those eyes.
Miss. It wasn't quite the 'Your Majesty' she was used to, but formalities were formalities and the Queen of Louisiana responded well to such politeness. She wasn't one to judge solely on appearance, especially given that she was over five hundred years old, but looked like nothing more than a seventeen year old playing dress up in her mother's Sunday best. (Nevermind that her mother predated the flapper fashion she tended to favor.)
"I'm fine," she lied. Or, sort of lied. She was fine and she would be fine if she stayed awake the whole day - fine as in, she'd survive it. She'd be miserable throughout it as the sun pulled at her and demanded she go to ground where vampires belong during the day, shrouded in the darkness they were damned to inhabit, but she would, in the end, be fine. "Just stubborn, I suppose you could say."

"Stubbornness can be an admirable trait," Kid allowed. "But usually works best when put towards a goal."
He turned to look at the horizon and the slowly brightening sun. "It's taking some getting used to," he said conversationally. "Not seeing the sun and the moon with their usual faces. It makes it hard to tell what mood they're in."
"Such a bold statement," she remarked, but left it at that. Sometimes she admired boldness, others she was annoyed by it and wanted to squash those who spoke up in such a manner to her like bugs beneath her shoe - often, she did just that and then complained to Hadley about how her heels were now coated in blood and guts and they would never be the same again. Priorities, priorities.
Not seeing the sun and the moon with their usual faces? Huh. That was...odd. Sophie-Anne studied the boy, taking in his youthful features and those eyes. Interesting. Very interesting.
"Admittedly on the scale, it's lower than say... the music or being stuck here. Or dealing with snow that's surely coming soon, there's not much of that in Nevada." He made a bit of a face. "Snow never falls symmetrically."
"Nevada!" Finally, someone mentioned a place she was familiar with. Too many of her fellow hostages in this city were from other worlds where the locations all sounded like things plucked from the latest fantasy novel. "Ahh, yes, Nevada. Too dry for my tastes, but certainly not the worst place someone could be."
Death City? Oh, how ironic. If she weren't bleeding from the ears, she would laugh. However, it's hard to manage that and not feel like your head wants to explode when your body is protesting your being out during the day instead of resting like a good vampire should. If one were to ask Sophie-Anne what she missed the most and she was feeling up to giving an honest answer, she would say the sun.
"Oh, nonsense. Now's as good of time as any." Not really, but there's no telling the queen no when she wants to do something. No-one outside The Authority's really in the position to do so. "And yes, it's far more temperate than my queendom."
Kid looks rightfully skeptical when Sophie-Anne claims that she has nothing better to do, given that she's still bleeding and it's certainly not like Kid's squeamish (or hasn't bled enough himself on missions) but there's just something wrong about carrying on casual conversation when there's obviously something wrong.
As for the what was wrong... well, Kid is his father's son. He's got a a pretty good inclination of the present company. But like so many other "questionable alive" residents of Elegy, Kid is withholding judgment on them; because none of them seem like they're supposed to be dead, and none of their souls are screaming Kishin egg! at him, and frankly it's upsetting his world view a little bit.
"Queendom? Isn't that all the more reason to take care of yourself while you're away from it?"
"Vampires are very sturdy." Perhaps that might've been a bit of an infobomb there, but Sophie-Anne was proud to be undead. Vampires in her world had come out of the coffin and were living amongst humans without hiding what they were; why should she do differently here?
"So are shinigami," Kid returned lightly, unperturbed by having his suspicions confirmed. "Though I wasn't aware any monarchies existed in the States."
Although perhaps it was not unlike witches, where they had some kind of internal structure. Kid wouldn't pretend to know the workings of other factions, but he was certainly filing all this information away to relay to his father once he found a way home.
"Shinigami." To someone who hasn't been around as long as Sophie-Anne and heard the whispers of things that most aren't meant to hear, that might be something completely foreign. A strange word with no meaning. However, that wasn't the case here and she recognizes it immediately, her brows lifting in interest. "The spirits of the dead."
How fascinating.
"Oh, the humans don't. They're big on democracy and equality, et cetera, et cetera. Vampires don't fall under the jurisdiction of the United States' government. Populations answer to their state's monarch and we answer to The Authority."
"Our charges," Kid corrected. "Shinigami are gods of death."
He said it without any overt arrogance, but plain as though it were a fact, as if there were nothing unusual about them talking about it. To him, there wasn't; Shibusen was ruled and guarded by the Grim Reaper himself, who also happened to be the headmaster, so everyone around him was used to the god's quirky presence. Death City was stamped everywhere with his insignia.
"But please tell me more, about how things are run where you're from?"
sorry i missed your im this morning! but yes, this is totally fine. <3unveilingsDecember 20 2010, 00:22:11 UTC
"Gods," she echoed, impassive for a moment before she let out a little string of laughter. "Oh, deities. Those are trouble. There was a mess in my queendom not to long ago with a maenad who worshiped Dionysus. Ever dealt with one of those? Pesky things, so deluded ind their ideals that they manifest powers out of their delusions. Would be rather remarkable if it weren't so ridiculous."
The queen hadn't dealt with the maenad directly, though. She'd provided Bill Compton and Eric Northman with the information they sought of her, then sat back and happily let the two other vampires see to the problem.
"Vampires haven't been known to the public eye for very long. We were thought of as fictional until we came out of the coffin. This company in Japan, you see, figured out how to make synthetic blood, thus taking away the necessity for my kind to make humans their prey. The Authority then decided it was due time we tried to ."

"I suppose that would be frustrating."

Then he catches himself, looking a bit contrite. "Perhaps I shouldn't keep you when you're obviously not feeling well," he says.
