NEAR GIGUE HALL MOVING TOWARDS BALLAD TOWNfbisincenineApril 13 2010, 03:27:45 UTC
When Caesura's announcement came out, Olivia began moving for Ballad Town. It was the only place she could think of that they might avoid, but the plan had been finalized last minute and she was still moving through Madrigal territory at this point. Which happened to be the main drawback to it. But if she wanted to avoid capture, Ballad Town would probably be the safest place. Depending how quickly they moved and in what direction, she guessed that they might catch up with her somewhere between The Interlude and Gigue Hall, which was quickly approaching as she moved through the streets quickly, but hopefully not enough to attract unwanted attention. Running would get her spotted quickly, and she didn't think she could just outrun them anyways. So she just had to hope that she got lucky and was overlooked.
So much for flying under the radar. As called out she quickened her pace, running through the streets now. At least there weren't many people out, and if she could get into a side street, there wouldn't be anyone but her pursuers. Gigue Hall passed by on her right and she began looking for a suitable street for her plan.
It wasn't long before one presented itself and she turned left and ran down it a bit before coming to a crossroad of sorts in the form of an even smaller alley lined with piles crates staggered on either side, making it almost impossible to clearly see down it. Here she stopped and turned to face her pursuers, pulling out her gun and firing a warning shot at the ground.
She shot at the shield once, at an angle. Like she suspected, the bullet ricocheted off, luckily missing her. With nothing else to do for the moment and not desperate enough to engage in close combat, she took off to her right, dodging around stacks of crates while moving as fast as she could. Which, in the narrow and crowded obstacle maze, wasn't as fast as she would like. Plus the narrowness made it fairly easy to target her, as long as the crates weren't in the way.
A quickly murmured scale and something was flung hard, down the alley, to tangle up her legs and foul her escape. It was like a bola, but pliable and shimmering yet unbreakable... music that had been compressed into physical form.
It was purely luck that she happened to have one foot up to step over a low obstacle when the object hit. Still, the force was enough to pull her leg out from under her just enough to overbalance. She fell backwards with a cry that was cut short as she hit the ground, knocking the breath out of her. On the way down she clipped the side of her head on a nearby crate, leaving a shallow gash running down her face. It took her a few seconds to grab her dropped gun and get back to her feet, but she knew at this point it would be hard to run. So she took another quick shot at the pair just in case the shield was down, before turning and hurrying off to find some way out of this alley, though not quite as quickly as before.
The general consensus among the Choir seemed to be that those fighting back probably had had something to do with Siciliana's murder... why else would they resist?
"Stop or the next strike won't be to restrain!" one yells after her.
She did stop, hidden behind a particularly large stack of crates. She could see that another alley connected to this one not too far away. If she could get to there, maybe she could loose them, or even make them split up. Anything but this situation. So she began to move carefully, but hopefully fast enough as she couldn't guess how fast they were approaching, calling out as she went.
"Why should I stop? I've done nothing wrong and you want to arrest me for something I've had no hand in. I don't want to be here as much as you don't want me here. But I think that you're also the people most likely to be able to help us find a way out of this. Especially your former Maestro. She was more powerful and able than Caesura. Why kill someone like Maestro Siciliana when I expected this sort of response? When you look at the facts, it doesn't add up."
"There should've been no one with the power to take out Maestro Siciliana in the city except another Maestro or an Octave. But the Libretto, they bring strange powers to the city, ones that don't rely on Harmony! How do you explain that?"
"I can't explain that. I don't have any of those. I'm just a law enforcement agent from a regular city. It's my job to stop people from killing in bizarre ways, not perpetrate it. But I also know when the methods for finding the killer are out of line. And the manner in which this is happening is out of line."
She had finally reached the side alley only to realize it was even smaller, which would make it even easier to hit her, especially since there was nothing blocking the way in this one- it was just large enough for her to move in. Still, if she moved quickly enough through here and found some sort of other exit, it was her best chance. As quietly as she could, she took off.
But the alley acted as a giant funnel, and the Choir members pursuing her sent a huge gust of musically-created wind screaming down the alley to entrap her.
Being hit by that wind was not an experience she hoped to feel again. As it hit she was lifted off her feet for long enough to register the feeling of weightlessness before it hurled her a meter or so down the alley and she crashed to the ground. It was hopeless and she knew it, but she struggled to her feet again, ignoring the pains caused by the last attack. At least it had moved her to a very dark, though luckily wider, street which she turned down, suspecting this would probably be the last one she ran down before her now inevitable capture.
Frustrated by the fleeing woman, they decided that it would take more creative means to bring her down. This time a duet is sung, and some ten feet ahead of Olivia a fissure opens up in the very roadbed, tearing the cement apart.
Even from a distance she could tell that she wasn't going to get across a gap like that and came to a stop. For a few seconds she stood there just looking at it before whipping around and firing off a couple shots at the duo in hopes that somehow that shield would be down.
