She had been up for some time, moving from room to room as she prepared some tea for herself, laid out her clothes and shifted the things that had gone awry in the apartment back into their proper place. She was a product of a military discipline, had been since a young age when she first attended preparatory school, and it was reflected in the pristine folding she did on his clothes that she placed on the end of the bed.

When Spock finally came around to stirring awake, she had finished slipping on her dress, zipping in up along the back seam with little difficulty. She watched herself in the vanity mirror in the room, trying not to curse it's unfortunate positioning too blatantly as she stared pointedly at her own reflection and ignored his in the lower corner of it. Upper-hand or no, she wished they were in his apartment where she could have stolen away and avoided this whole situation altogether ( ... )

There was something that prevented him from sitting up- and he was even fairly certain of what it was, even if she knew that he was awake. Watching her ignore him was far too fascinating.

Though, she wouldn't like to hear that.

As open as he had been last night, he still had a right to keep his secrets. Especially because of what he had said, and especially where they involved his own thoughts. Even if those thoughts centered on her and how perfect she still managed to look. This was the kind of perfection that he continually strived to maintain, and she made it look so simple, so easy, so second-nature that it was almost embarrasing that he still had to work for it.

And it was still so fascinating at the same time. It was the kind of thing that he didn't want to spoil with words.

How long could they both keep this up? However good he believed her to be at maintaining the semblance of balance, she was growing impatient. Restless, even. She wanted it to be over with and for him to be gone so they could see each other again and go back to normal. No awkward silences or lingering memories of things she certainly didn't regret, though she knows she should have. This was a good move strategically, right? The context, the feelings, the mututal understanding; those were off completely.

It was difficult to manipulate someone you had feelings for, and even harder to forget those feelings when the object of them was lingering.

"You're awake." It was a statement delivered less coldly than she originally intended as she shifted her gaze in the mirror as opposed to turning around.

IT TOTALLY IS. <333 icanhaslogic February 9 2010, 08:51:22 UTC
With the silence broken, all of the restraints seemed to be lifted that held him in place, but he didn't quite sit up, instead opting to prop himself up on one arm and shift his gaze to catch hers in the mirror. The conversation was easy enough, even if it seemed a little too casual, a little too fake. Maybe that was his fault, though, for being here to watch her reinstate her reinforced perfection.

He nodded once, tearing his eyes away from her reflected ones with no small amount of effort before he answered the not-question as he finally pulled himself into a sitting position.

"So it would seem." Perhaps a less-than-ideal response, but hers had been a statement of what was quite obvious.
