Taking down the bear had been easier than Meifeng had thought it would be. The sushi bears in the Kuma Ko were dopey and trusting, and they hadn't been expecting the Second Mate to be hiding on the ceiling, waiting for the right moment to catch one bear alone without any witnesses. Dropping down onto its shoulders and clubbing it on the back of the head was simple enough; hauling it onto the sledge Kage had made and securing it was not.
But they had managed, somehow. And now they were outside Carnival, and her palms were sweaty and her heart raced as she waited for Kage to unlock the doors. This was going to be the perfect sacrifice.
