Ordinarily, running a few cons, or heading to the beach to take advantage of a few tourists would be enough to satiate his boredom, that nervous energy that made his fingers drum and his brain almost itch with a need to do something.
And so he wandered the ship aimlessly, hands jammed into his pockets, cigarette dangling from his lips. And as he strolled down deck four, he spotted a familiar head of green hair. Ducking into the shadows, he pinched the cigarette and tossed it aside, watching as Herz approached the doors to Carnival.
"Fourth...time," He whispers to himself, nervously drawing out the 'o' as he gathers his courage to open the doors.
Three times he's navigated the carnival, not once in those three times falling victim to a bear or anything until he'd reached his "mother's" cave. He shouldn't be afraid of running through again, but he was.
He always is.
With a sigh, he loosens his shoulders, pulls the Carnival door open just wide enough to let him through, and slips inside.
Russ feels a little chill of excitement run down his spine, and he licks his lips. He's not stupid, he's not about to go walking through Carnival. It's a hellish place even for those who can defend themselves, and Russ isn't a fighter.
But there's that thrill. The rush of danger, the burst of adrenalin from doing something he shouldn't, being somewhere he's at risk. The danger of getting caught. The fear of not getting away with it. The excitement that comes with the possibility that he will.
Before he can even reconsider, he saunters up to the doors, just nudging them open a crack to watch Herz descend the ramp. He won't go in, but he's not adverse to seeing what the fuss is about. And maybe watching the kid face off the danger inside.
The teenager scans Carnival critically, looking for any signs of it's evil inhabitants. There's a brief flash of movement out of the corner of his eye--from the direction of the forest--and he stops short of the end of the ramp. Freezes.
No, Russ definitely saw that too. His eyes narrow slightly and he cracks the door open a little more, squinting at the edge of the forest.
Maybe he can just stay inside the entrance, just ... hang right by the door. That should be safe, right? The air is thick and heavy, it stinks of rotting meat and something foul and evil. Russ covers his mouth with his hand as he slips through the doors, leaning his back against the heavy metal.
Look again, Herz. Is that Kage walking through the woods. He's not wearing much more than a gleam of sweat and dirt, is he. Oh my. How... lickable he looks.
Although, Russ, maybe that's Ace? He's ducking between the trees, appearing then reappearing, laughing at something.
Herz steps off the ramp and slowly heads for the woods, glancing around ever so often to make sure none of the bears are hiding anywhere. Maybe he...shouldn't be going for Kage. No, he shouldn't. It'll be awkward...
Russ straightens up and frowns. What the hell is Ace doing here?
Well ... Russ is curious. Curious as hell to see what Carnival has to offer. Alone, he doesn't stand a chance. With Herz, his odds are even worse, he'd bet.
But with Ace here? Maybe he can take a look around. God knows, the other man could whisk them both out at a moment's notice.
The kid makes an strained, unhappy noise in the back of his throat before following after him at a jog. His face is redder than all hell and he's getting that uncomfortable, sweltering feeling he gets in the boy's locker room before and after gym. This isn't good--this can't be good. Kage's gonna show him something gross he just knows it.
And--and WHY IS HE NAKED?!
Herz officially picked the worst time to go see mom. This is gonna screw up everything.
Ace watches Russ with a grin, the one that curls around the corners, just a little more wicked than he lets anyone else see.
"Sastipe," he says, and holds out a hand to take Russ's and lead him deeper through the woods. There's a strange, spicy smell to the air, something...hot.
Almost jogging up to him, Russ lets out a sigh of relief that he didn't know he'd been holding. "'kin' hell Ace, I'm glad to see you. What're you doing in here anyway?"
There's an odd smell. It's strong though, and even pleasant as it cuts through the stink of Carnival. Russ takes Ace's hand and follows him, eyes darting to catch as much of a glimpse of the place as he can while they're there.
"Waiting for you," Ace says, turning and drawing Russ closer. He ducks his head to brush their lips together, then bites down hard on his lip, breaking skin, drawing blood. His hands punch into Russ's sides, piercing, spreading venom, numbing Russ.
"Fool," he says. Beside them, the underbrush unfurls, bushes becoming leaves becoming a mammoth flower, gaping maw opening. It reeks of carrion.
Russ slips his arms around Ace, smirking into the kiss. The bite is sharp and painful, and he squirms. That's really not his style, and he moves away to wipe his lip.
"What the he--"
The words are choked off into a gasp of shock, his eyes wide with questioning at the betrayal. Pain crawls up his spine and his hands grip Ace's arms, fingers clawing uselessly as blood drips down his sides. A moment later there's a freezing numbness working through Russ's veins, and his knees buckle.
Stumbling once as he's shoved, he collapses against the gaping jaws of the plant. He thrashes weakly, but tiny hairs and sticky sap keep him pinned, and the venom slowly paralyzes him.

He was going back? Interesting.

Still.
Waiting.
A flicker, suddenly. Is that someone in the shadows by the woods?

Did he see that or had he just imagined it?

He takes a few hesitant steps down the ramp.

Come on, boys. She'll decide which one she wants in a bit.

Why.
Is Kage naked.
In Carnival.
And motioning Herz to follow him?

Ace grins and shoves him into it.
