Goldenrods and Empty Heads

The cart rattled as Kage pushed it down the hallway of Deck 12. The wheels were already slick with blood and the fine china on the trolley rattled as he moved towards the pirate ship at a calm, sedate pace. A cigarette dangled out of his mouth and he smoked, occasionally tapping ash off when he had to manoeuvre the tea cart around the corpse of a pirate or a discarded weapon. There were scorch marks on the walls, scores from claws, splashes of blood and above him the lights flickered on and off when the bulbs weren't smashed already.

Around him, Kage could see various passengers in states of hiding, some using their magic to make themselves invisible and others merely concealing their presence behind bulkheads and doors. When he reached a wide intersection of corridors Kage came to a stop and kicked all the debris to one side before laying it down a large blanket on the decking. A short, low kneeling table was unfolded next and two embroidered cushions were set on opposite sides. Kage sucked on his cigarette as he began to set out the dishes: a bowl of candied rose petals, tea biscuits, squares of dark, rich chocolate, sliced cucumbers, and pieces of a light pastry drizzled liberally with honey. A large, ornate samovar was set to one side and Kage poured in purified water, then added some cinnamon, tea leaves and a liberal dose of rose-water.

Kage himself wasn't in his normal dark-blue jacket and trousers, but rather he had dressed in his homeworld's military dress uniform; deep black robes with calf-wraps and pointed boots, a thick sash around his middle with an ornamental knot, a high collar that ended under his chin and his medals pinned to the right side of his chest. The leather pistol holster was empty and Kage shifted it out of the way as he knelt down on one of the decadent pillows and waited.

He was defenseless, sitting in the middle of the hallway with its flickering lights, weaponless and bare-headed in direct view of a master sniper. Kage flicked his cigarette butt to one side and poured himself a cup of tea.

He took a sip and waited.

Above him, the lights buzzed noisily and flickered, on off on off on off.

((OOC: I doodled Kage's military dress uniform here. lol))
