Evelyn had been doing her best to relax as she could. It was a fairly difficult task, considering her instincts had her itching to go and join the action again, but she'd almost met her death already in the past few days, and Cadence surely wouldn't be too pleased if he had to go and bail her ass out of the same situation again.

The redhead had no idea when exactly to expect the man that was coming to retrieve his wallet, and the knock caused her to tense up. Zombies? Wait, no, this was a safe deck and zombies don't knock, they stand outside your door and scream.

Right, then.

She got up from her place sprawled up on the bed, fixed her hair just the slightest bit (ughh, bedhead), and went to open the door. She had no idea what this man looked like -

Holy fuck, he was tall.

She stared up and managed a smile.

"Huh-hi! You're...h-h-here for your wallet, right?"

Behind the aviators, Herz blinks. He didn't know the stuttering girl on the comms would turn out to be so...cute.

Freckles are cute.

When he opens his mouth, he just ends up stammering and can't manage to form a reply in words. Mouth closed, he tries again with a simple nod.

Evelyn just smiles a bit bigger at Herz's bashfulness. He's so adorably awkward, she can already tell - and it's rare that she meets someone more shy than herself. She gives a nod in response before ducking back into her room and grabbing his wallet for him, returning to the door and extending the object out to him.

"Here y-y-you go."

By the time she returns, the flush on Herz's face has traveled down his cheeks and nose, his Adam Apple, and kept trecking until it reached his navel. He ducks his head, takes the wallet and pockets it quickly.

"T--T-thank--thank y-you," he mumbles.

Evelyn casually leans against the doorframe, looking Herz over. It's amazing how at ease she feels - as wrong as it is, she's not nervous around him due to the fact that he's quite apparently nervous. Despite his adorable demeanor, however, she can tell something's...off. It's in the way he's holding himself, the way his hair's mussed...

"Yuh-you okay...?"

Really, Evie probably shouldn't be asking. It's probably nosy, considering they barely know each other at all, haven't even exchanged names, but it just seems wrong not to care.

Honestly, that's the last thing Herz expected to come from her. He doesn't think about his appearance--he doesn't know how she could possibly know he feels like shit warmed over.

She says it and his head snaps up, suddenly alert. Behind the too-large glasses, his black eyes blink owlishly down.

"U...U-Uhm..."

He draws in a shaky breath, trying to steady himself. His shoulders go up. "Not..." air goes out, shoulders go down. "Nuh-Not really, no."

Evie bites lightly at her lip as she considers. Should she risk seeming creepy and ask him to talk about it, or be a total bitch and drop the entire subject? Option number one honestly sounds the best, so she lets out a soft sigh, looking up at him.

"Wanna t-t-talk about it or...suh-something?"

...this can't be it. There's gotta be a catch, or she's pulling his leg...or she's just taking pity and she'll hate every moment he spends jabbering on about his crap life. He should catch it now, or at least give her an easy way out.

"W-We...we don't even--e-even know each other."

"...Suh-so?"

Evie looks up at him, still nibbling on her lip. It's not bad to be nice to people, right? Not bad to care even if you don't know them? She shifts anxiously, hoping that she hasn't put Herz off too much.

"That duh-doesn't mean I c-c-can't care, right?"

Herz shakes his head.

"I-I just...I don't know if--if I should re-eally...y'know." A shrug of slender shoulders under a too-big t-shirt. "Bother you with--with my...p-problems."

"You wuh-wouldn't be bothering me. I asked."

Evie's answer comes quickly - she doesn't have to think about it. It's the truth. She wouldn't have invited him to ramble if she really, honestly hadn't wanted him to.

The moment he considers she's honestly being sincere with him, a big lump lodges itself in his throat and just makes camp there. Kindness...always chokes him up. He doesn't feel like he gets it enough--especially not from any women folk. He's probably wrong--he knows he can be one hell of an oblivious guy, but...

God, it's just to know a stranger can care about someone like him.

...which makes him just pitiful.

"...I-I'd--I'd like that," he forces out, voice thick.

Evelyn nods again and steps back into her room, gesturing for Herz to join her. It's neat, well-kept, and Cadence isn't there, considering he's out slaughtering pirates.

"Come in, th-then," she says, completely grateful that Herz has accepted her offer. It would have hurt in a strange way if he had just up and declined it.

"T--Thank you..."

He steps inside. Into...a girl's room. He's in a girl's room, and he doesn't even know her name. This has certainly never happened before. He's never even known a girl who'd be willing to let him in her house, let alone her room...

...oh god, now what does he do?

"You can suh-sit anywhere you want," Evelyn says with a smile as she goes to flop down on her bed, snatching up one of the pillows to cling to. She's a huggy person, what can she say?

"Just...make yourself c-comfy and stuff."

It's a stereotypical line and she knows it, but she does want him to be comfortable.

Not knowing what else to do, and feeling horribly imposing as it is, Herz deems the wall adjacent to her bed good enough, and pulls up some floor, back to the wall.

He isn't sure if he should just...start now or what. So...he sits there, imagining he's some bug she's invited in with huge aviators replacing his compound eyes. He's a fly.

...no, knock it off, imagination, now is not time time to get creepy. He's a guest. Push the thoughts away before you get the urge to share them--no one cares.

...well, she kinda cares...but it'd still be weird.
