And whoa, the last thing Riku had been expecting was to hear his own name. Most people don't know about his treehouse; even Kairi doesn't know anything beyond his planning to build one. Riku stops, glancing down to see who it is that's called to him.

"Hey, Zuko. What's up?"

Much like one would expect, Riku plays it off cool. "Just working on the treehouse."

But when he grins, it's obvious how pleased he is. "You wanna come up?"

"All right," Riku says, grabbing hold of the ladder. "Watch out--"

He tosses the simple rope ladder down to Zuko. "Hey, before you come up, can you grab that rail over there?" He points, to where a simply-fashioned rail is lying on the ground.

"Thanks." Riku takes the rail, setting it off to one side. Although the treehouse and balcony are decent sized, there's still a lot of stuff up here, what with all the supports he's putting in. He's left a lot of the wood down on the ground, to be brought up when necessary.

But he's not planning on just continuing to work while Zuko's here. Riku adds the hand drill and a handful of nails to the pile of supplies.

And then he catches sight of Zuko, looking around, and Riku shoots him a smirk. "You should see what it's like from the lookout point."

In response, Riku gestures for Zuko to follow, then turns and heads towards the back of the house, to where a bridge something like this leads off into another tree. Once they reach this tree, they'll have to climb, but Riku picked his spot wisely and it isn't too difficult to climb their way to the top of the tree.

Near the top, an observation platform has been built. Riku hoists himself up onto the platform, shifting out of the way to make room for Zuko, and stands up. They're up much higher than the level where the treehouse itself had been built, and the branches are beginning to thin out here, which means that there's not a lot of foliage in their way, either.

Once Zuko's up on the platform as well, he grins again, jerking his thumb out over the railing. "You can see a lot more up here than you can down below. See for yourself."

"Yeah."

Riku leans back against the trunk of the tree, crossing his arms, comfortable as ever. "It's been something to do, at any rate." The project had been interrupted several times, sure, but it had been something to go back to when things had gotten stagnant, something that was there and waiting for him and steadfast when things were constantly in flux.

"So what about you?" he asks then, genuinely curious. "You've gotta be doing something to keep from going crazy on this boat, right?"

Zuko just didn't seem to him like the type to just sit patiently and wait for the ship to get to the Golden Shore.

"Really." Though it's not a question, Riku doesn't mean any offense by it, either. "What about that Marco guy? He seems like he knows a lot about this ship."

Even if he wasn't always willing to tell.

"I'm sure if we pooled our knowledge we'd know more than you think."
