Toph was hitting a pile of dirt. She had been hitting the same pile of dirt for about half an hour now and, unlike most of her training sessions, it was yet to explode into clods or sink back into the ground.

She sunk blow after blow into the dirt, using the heels of her palms rather than a closed fist. Her hands were red, and there were shallow indentations in the soil. But it was nothing close to the kind of damage bending could do.

If she was going to learn to fight without bending, she was going to need to hit things a lot harder. And the hands on approach was the only style of learning that Toph had ever known.

Still, it wasn't like she could just turn off her bending. Maybe practising on flower deck was cheating because she could still see with her feet. But so what? She'd learn to punch hard and then learn to fight without seeing. In the mean time, she was doing her best not to feel all the vibrations around her. It wasn't working, but she was trying.

Pausing for a moment and huffing at her bangs, she muttered, "Next time, I'll bring shoes."

sokka, toph
