Carnival/Temple Expedition

Dec 17, 2010 18:56

[The ship is quiet. Unnervingly so.

Far apart, two groups gather for their trecherous expedition according to Meth's orders, weapons ready and minds steeled for the dangers ahead of them.

Let's hope someone remembered to bring the body bags this time!]

[Meth waits quietly at the entrance to Carnival on deck four. She is dressed in dark green coveralls and combat boots. Sleeves rolled up to her elbows show some tension in her lower arms, which nonetheless hang still at her sides while she waits. She carries a machete in one hand, and her communicator in the other. With a sigh, Meth begins to tap her foot, waiting for people to show up.]

[Mordecai strides in, pistol on his hip, regen shield strapped to his leg and attention fixed on the sniper rifle in his hands as he gives the weapon yet another glance over. It's habit to check his weapons time and time again when heading into a job, and anxious excitement has the best of him. Far too many months have past since Mordecai has killed anything, more so with a weapon of his own.

He gives Meth a short nod and joins her in waiting for the others.]

[Vincent arrives in his standard gear, Cerberus strapped to his thigh with a makeshift holster. It doesn't quite fit, but it's better than nothing. He gives a quick glance around before folding his arms and leaning back against the nearest wall, waiting. Nothing to say until they get moving, after all.]

[Auron was ready. Auron was already ready. Living in Spira gives you that kind of edge. So yeah, the minute the call to arms was sounded, he bid a silent farewell to Yuna, grabbed his Masamune, and headed for the appropriate meeting spot.

When he arrives, he'll come to stand close by Vincent. He's the reason Auron's here, after all.]

[Luck has the transmission come up mid-daily patrol. A crew-led foray into Carnival versus an uneventful scouring of the ship? No contest.

Nel's entry is quiet but for the faint rasp of leather, thanks to her armor. She has no protests to the change in plan, even if her self-appointed guard has been assigned to a separate group, especially as the crewmembers are probably the ones who have the best idea of what's waiting for them. She won't frown at the added firepower, either.

She stops at the fringe of the gathering and adopts a veil of blase patience.]

[Kim's last- odd, isn't it? But she's carying a back pack with a...is that a hula hoop strapped onto it? One-eyed Goggle already over her eye and an odd flashlight-muzzled gun on her hip, she stands near Vincent, pretending not to be late.]

Ready. Let's go.

[Vincent has never seen a horse before, but he's heard of them. Riding beasts, from Earth. He assumes they'll hate him as much as chocobos do back home, but he'll make an attempt regardless.

He meets Meth at the carousel, stands beside the next horse in the line. It reacts about as well as expected, getting louder and more frantic, twitching and tugging and pulling away. Vincent's already neutral expression flattens.]

...Would it be acceptable to pass on the horses?

[lol no. Auron doesn't ride chocobos. And he sure as hell doesn't ride weird other worldly animals.]

Pass.

[Nel has several motivations to be here, a few of them selfish, but on high priority is team survival. She may not know or trust these others, but letting that be a factor is (from her view) unprofessional. It's a reasonable request, she thinks.

The horses are a different animal altogether.

Literally. Their limbs look gangly, underfed and less powerful than the versatile lums she's used to. Nel gives the closest horse a wary once-over but slowly makes her way to its side, making sure that it can see her at all times.]

Can do. Any tempers we should know about?

[Horses are not something he's ever really come into contact with. Give the man a vehicle, a gunner, a tank, anything mechanical that he can control and he's a pro. Riding on the back of a living creature with a mind of it's own? Completely new.]

Nah, it'll work.

[Regardless, Mordecai mutters a reply and approaches a horse, setting his gun aside to reach a hand to run a hand down the side of the beasts neck. He's tense, edgy. The man forces a calm.]

Stay out of my way when I'm taking a shot and we'll get along fine.

I- [She hesitates, seeing their reaction to Vincent. Creepy- but fascinating.] No, I can't.

[Meth gives a nod to Zuko, clearly approving how quickly he falls in line with her plan, then calmly reaches out and grabs the horse by Vincent by the nose with both hands. She holds its head still until it calms and then glances to the rest of the group, Vincent, Auron, and Kimiko in particular ( ... )
