So much for the prom...

Jul 02, 2005 17:00

After all the drama from yesterday, all I can say is, it's good to be home!
Apparently on the six o'clock BBC news yesterday there was a report about an explosion in Edmonton, London. Well, that's what caused me to MISS THE PROM! x________________x
I managed to miss my prom totally because of an idiot who decided to leave 15 gas canisters in a residential area (his shed)...yeah, and there was a massive explosion on the neighbouring road and four roads had to evacuate. I have to admit that the prom was the least of my worries for a while (I was more worried about our house!), but I can't believe I paid £125 for a dress I never got a chance to wear. Not only that, but I obviously couldn't make it for my salon appointment ;__;

I literally just returned home half an hour ago after being away from home for 32 hours. There's still police controlling the area (no cars are allowed to come through from other roads) and only people living on these roads can enter the area. Still, not a lot of people have returned. Some people are coming back to retrieve essentials and then leaving again, despite the fact that the police and the fire brigade say it's safe to return home.

Anyway, let's start from the very beginning, shall we?

Yesterday was a normal day, but I was really excited about the prom at Tiger Tiger in London that evening.
I had my dress.
I had my shoes.
I even had a date!
I was just coming out of the bath when it felt like the house shook. I thought nothing of it, but then it happened again. It felt like someone had landed on our roof! I put on some clothes and went down to ask my brother if he'd felt the same. He took me outside and I saw a massive cloud of thick, black smoke rising from the next road over.
Some of the neighbours were out and everyone just thought it was a fire. I didn't actually hear the explosions, but I felt them instead. The fire brigade were already on their way and I saw one trying to climb over a wall and get to the other side. There was a helicopter circling the area above us over and over again.
My mother told me to go inside. I stayed there for a while thinking that the fire had been contained, but then my mother came inside telling us to get out of the house. She said that the police were telling everyone to evacuate. I literally didn't have time to take anything with me whatsoever. I put on my trainers and went outside to have a policeman tell us to head for another road.
We were allowed to take our cars out so my dad drove us out and we waited on another road. There were lots of people there and because there was a primary school nearby, they also had to evacuate and the neighbouring roads were closed off.
The air was thick with smoke and there were bits of ash blowing in the wind.
After waiting around for about five hours, my dad asked one of the policemen if we would be able to return home soon.
He said we could return home the next day!!!
Now, THAT was unexpected! >.<
But now that I think about it, I guess it was the most sensible thing to do.
So, we decided to have lunch at Pizza Hut and we headed for my dad's church to spend the night.
It was sooooooooo uncomfortable! My dad bought some cheap blankets and pillows at Tesco and we laid them across wooden tables.
Ahem! It's not nice to be a girl and have to sleep on straight, hard, wooden tables. The blankets did nothing! I got about two hours sleep last night because I couldn't find a comfortable position and my boobs hurt like hell this morning! ;______;
Not only that, but we all managed to drive each other insane. Since there was really nothing to do at church, we tried to talk to each other but we still ended up arguing and being pissed off with each other. Not to mention that I was PMSing at the time so that really didn't make me feel any better.
Anyway, enough about that. At least at the church we had privacy and there was food and bathrooms there. It was either church or the Edmonton Leisure Centre which we'd end up sharing with all the other evacuees and frankly, the church sounded like a much better option!
So, we spent the morning there as well and returned home just recently.
We had to open up some windows because the house STANK of rotting food (remember, we had to leave straight away) and we're on our toes just in case we have to evacuate again.
This time, I'll be sure to take a book with me!

All of this, of course, meant I missed the prom. To be honest, I don't care about the prom too much now, but I was really upset last night. I kept thinking that Drush and Anil would be pissed off at me, but I sent Drush a message and I'm going to speak to Anil tonight.
Drush hasn't replied to my message yet, but it's not like I could go back, get my things, go into London and then not know where to return to!

Ugh!
What a day! x_____x
