So, I went to MediaWest, saw my fannish friends, had a great time. A lot of the folks I only see once a year at the con, so I always try to get there for a day or two at least. (Luckily I live pretty close--it's 104 miles from my house to the con hotel

The last time (and only time) I parted company with a horse due to saddle slippage was at a 4h horse show in the unfenced warm-up area. we were cantering along and over went the saddle. As I hit the dirt my gelding bucked/leaped and got his hind end over me. He continued canter/bucking out of the warm-up ring.

My friend who was also warming up called "Cracker whoa" and headed the same way he was going. I had visions of him galloping into the woods as he looked freaked. Luckily he was actually fairly cool headed and as soon as he was clear of traffic he stopped moving, turned to look back for me and stood there blowing from nerves. He was fine pretty much as soon as I got to him and reassured him a moment that the world was fine. Readjusted everything, remounted and life went on.

So yeah for cool headed horses like Mocha and Crakcers.

It sucked, because I tightened up the girth before I got on, then Nan said it looked loose and pulled it up again, and I still slid off. I'ma use a different girth next time, I think!

I will definitely keep you in mind! I can keep them til the end of this month, but they need to move on after that.
