Walking in a winter wonderland

Despite the fact that I had to take my SAT again this morning (technically for the third time), today was a really fucking good day. I needed that.
It started snowing during the middle of the test, and then by the end, I realized it was sticking. And it wasn't stopping. It was coming down pretty hard, actually. I was really ecstatic. The first true blue snowfall of the season... always a glorious affair. On the way to the test, we listened to Christmas music, but going home it was really fitting. Zack dropped me off at Jefferson for Lunch with Santa, but I got there 15 minutes before it ended so it was kind of pointless. ...Actually, I did get to color in a Black Santa (thank you, Paper Towns) that's probably going up on my wall. Mr. God said it was a "radical statement."
When I came home, it was that kind of thing where it was slightly dark in the house, but all of the snow accumulating in the backyard was lighting fairly decently and made a really wonderful atmosphere that you didn't want to ruin by during on the lights inside. I turned on the ones away from the windows so as not to interfere... if I had been able to light the fireplace instead, it would've been even more pretty. I blared Christmas music and reveled in the fact that I was home alone to witness the first snowfall, without any annoyance or distraction on the part of my parents.
After a little while Zack and Sydney came to bring me back to his house. Sydney really wanted to walk in the snow, so we walked through the trail in back of my house that leads to Pine Grove School and the cemetary next to it. What was particularly nice, strangely enough, was the walk through the cemetary. The way the snow was falling on the trees and the fact that you could only see the tombstones sticking out of the ground was oddly beautiful. The lighting was still soft and gorgeous at that time. Somehow we killed a few hours before everyone showed up at his house for a movie. While he was bringing Sydney to go babysit, I sat in his basement in a really comfy recliner with a really comfy blanket in front of the really comfy wood stove (I'm getting warm just thinking about it...) with Christmas music poring in from upstairs. Even though I highly dislike James Taylor (for reasons unknown) one of his Christmas songs came on and it was so perfect. That's when I really started to feel in the spirit... The Spirit. One of the vivid times of realization about what time of the year it is, and all that it represents. It was great.
We watched Land of the Lost when everyone got there. It was as bad as everyone said it was, but despite this (and several plot holes we liked to point out) it was still pretty funny. Plus Jorma Taccone still managed to tug at my heartstrings even through a grotesque monkey suit. Boy can move...
Sebastian, the other (very cute) exchange student from Germany, and I decided that we wanted to go play outside after the movie was over. Zack came, and eventually Katie, Sydney, and Louise came out too. It turned into a snowball fight, the first one I've had in a very long time. The snow was perfect packing snow, too. We decided we'd gather somewhere tomorrow to build an epic snowman. All in all, an extremely wonderful start to winter. (Yes, I have officially decided that winter starts today, haha.)

I was planning on just staying home and reading tonight, and I was actually looking forward to it. I'm glad I went out, however. I really needed today. It was pretty much the polar opposite of Thursday; thank God, because I thought I was going to be horribly miserable all weekend. Maybe now I'll be okay...
