First Injury of the New Year

So much for being healthy...

Yesterday I got called in to gymnastics (you know, the job I quit!) because everyone had called out sick and they were desperate. It wasn't bad. I ended up helping out with 3 classes in 2 1/2 hours.

However, all the kids were doing backhandsprings. That's great. I loved them when I was a kid. Spotting them wasn't too bad. I only made one kid cry. (She undercut her handspring and I dumped her head into my knee... oops? Then I dumped her on her head the next time around. An ice pack was called in...) I almost killed another on bars, but she was older and thus more durable.

Let me inform you of one thing with spotting. You have to spot on the pivoting axis. Thus, with a backhandspring, you're on the side with one hand on their back and the other under their thigh. This way, you can dump them backwards and all they have to do is keep their arms straight and they'll land on their feet. One girl couldn't have been older than 6 and I threw her halfway across the gym on accident. She was fine. However, there were also teenagers.

For those who haven't noticed, I'm only 5 feet tall and roughly the size of an 11 year old girl. I don't have much bulk on me at all and wear a size 2 dress and pants. There's not a lot to me.

Some of these girls were close to 5'6" and outweighed me by at least 20 lbs easily. EASILY. I was able to handle it, much to my surprise!, and I thought all went well...

My back is caput. It is severeyl strained, as is my right bicept and shoulder. Right now I have a heating pad underneath my hoodie helping my back. I cannot move without pain. Walking hurts. Sitting hurts. Picking up a cup of hot chocolate hurts.

Needless to say I will not be subbing any more at gymnastics. It's just not worth it.

The silver lining to all of this is that hopefully I'll be OK for a casting call tomorrow afternoon. Keep those fingers crossed that I get this...

Happy 2008!!!

I will be healthy

I will be beautiful

I will be fearless
