My Trip to Delta

So, I went and had New Year’s with my Aunt and her clan. They live in Delta, Colorado, which is just outside of Grand Junction. It’s a small town with lots of cowboy types. Anyway, my Aunt lives on a farm with husband number 3 and her five children (two of which were not there because they were at the Symphony with grandma for New Year’s Eve). She also has seven horses, four of which are pregnant, and a bunch of dogs that are Wolf hybrids (meaning they are half wolf, half malamute) that they breed, including four puppies. Then, inside they house, she has Cody running around, a two year old with a definite need for constant entertainment and two baby girls that just had their first birthday (they are twins, Hope and Faith).
So, Friday morning we took off and drove down there. It was my parents, my sister and papa and I, all cooped up in the car for 5 hours so I was already tired by the time we got there. So, we arrived, checked into the Best Western (grandpa was staying at the farm) and then headed over there to see everyone. Cody was cranky but the babies were in fine form. My Aunt Kelly was doing well, and her newest husband Sam is a really nice guy so that was enjoyable. We went out to the “best restaurant in town” (all ten of us) and had some fun upstairs in our private loft (in order to keep the babies from causing trouble because Hope is a screamer). Dinner was good and I got to have a really good German white wine called Gewurtztriminer (Hehehe) and that was really nice. My Aunt is funny. She pisses my dad off because she doesn’t even ask if I can have some, she just orders me a glass. I love wine very much, so this works out great for me.
New Year’s Eve rolled around and that was interesting. We spent all day at the farm (obviously). We kicked off the morning by going and checking out the puppies they are getting ready to sell. Four nine week old baby boys. They were all beautiful and my sister stayed on my dad the rest of the weekend about taking one home with us. She failed in convincing him, however. We also played with some of the other dogs. Get this, the big male that does all the impregnating is named Amonti. Then, there is another spayed male named Kai. There are also the two child bearing females, Lakota and Komotz. Great names right? The last of the wolf hybrids is Amonti’s daughter and her name? Naughty Girl. There is also a yellow lab named buster. Then, Sam taught Stacy how to ride a horse. She was getting to ride Cisco (he’s twenty and one of their only horses that are broken and can be ridden) when pretty boy (a 3 year old stud who is really unbroken and wild) decided to pick a fight. Cisco and Pretty Boy started rearing up and almost trampled Cody, who had run off because he doesn’t mind. That was a fun experience. But, Stacy did get to ride her horse (after he chased some cows for a bit) and that was nice for her. I pretty much spent the rest of the day either playing with babies or puppies (one named Blue who is all white with blue eyes and whom they are keeping and another named Gizmo, who looks more like a bear then a dog) and that was about it.
For dinner, we ate prime rib which, the last time I was at the farm, was a cow named Daisy. I had never eaten a cow that I had met before, so that was sort of difficult. She also had made some other weird but palpable dishes that I grooved on but were a little too gourmet for the likes of Dad and Papa. I did get to try a blackberry red wine from one of the wineries in western Colorado and that was good stuff. Then, we went back to the hotel at nine because my family is boring and doesn’t think New Year’s is worthy of celebrating. So, I got really pouty and through a fit. Then, I took four Tylenol P.M’s in an attempt to knock myself out, but I ended up watching Ace Ventura with my mom, until midnight rolled around. Then, I cheered a little with the line dancing and Karaoke party that was happening downstairs (that we could hear), and listened to really bad Karaoke for a while.

Yay for family road trips!!!!!
