Day 21 - A recipe

Jun 21, 2010 20:48

Well tonight I had Keiko ask me about Eleece chicken (better known to most people as Oyako-Don) so I figured I would post that.

Ingridents:
chicken (4oz)
1 egg
1 T Sugar
1 1/2 T mirin
2 T soy
1/4 cup water
a bowl of cooked rice (preferably sticky rice)

Directions:
Put sugar, mirin, soy sauce, and water in a small pan and mix together until sugar is dissolved. Add chicken and cook over a medium heat. Once chicken is 80% cooked add egg, stir slightly and cover the pan. Cook until egg is at desired doneness. Typically with Oyako-don the egg is slightly still gooey, but some people are not comfortable or do not enjoy this. I don't trust American eggs raw most of the time so I completely cook eggs here. Once done pour over rice and enjoy ^_^. You can also add naga negi to it if you want (put it in when you put the chicken in). I typically don't here just because I have a hard time getting ahold of it here. I suppose you could add whatever kind of onion you want, but a naga negi compliments it best.

I think Oyako-don is one of the first Japanese dishes I learned to make, and is one of my favorites. We started calling it Eleece Chicken because Keiko couldn't remember the Japanese name for it and I made it for her a lot. I make it a lot for lunch when I can't think of what to make because it's easy lol.
