Well, the wound is fairly deep to begin with . . . You would have needed suturing either way, Amanda-san. But please-next time, as soon as you are able, seek medical attention . . .

I will work as quickly as I can. Please just try to rest . . .

[Thankfully, the café is well stocked with medical supplies. Megumi prepares a syringe of lidocaine and injects several doses of it into the gash as an anesthetic.]

[Megumi prepares her surgical needle, the suture, and her needle holder. With a steady hand, she begins the surgery, pushing the curved needle into the subcutaneous tissue and drawing it out with the needle holder. She sutures the first layer, pulling the flesh taut.]

[Layer per layer, she sutures, working meticulously to bind the flesh together properly to promote healing. It takes some time to finally reach the epidermis, but she works diligently and efficiently, ensuring that all the sutures were in place.]

[Finally, she reaches that last stretch of the procedure. Drawing the epidermis together, she finally knots the last of the sutures and cuts the excess silk.]

[Heaving a sigh, she puts her equipment aside and cleanses the area of the wound with sterile water and betadine, before dressing it and applying a splint.]

All done, Amanda-san . . .

…That wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Alright, I will… But there were too many in worse condition. Isn’t it my duty to save them before worrying about myself? That changes when soon is…

*Once Megumi says she’s finished, Amanda looks away from the wall toward the dressing almost curiously. It might have just been the anesthesia, but it did hurt a lot less now; the sutures might feel odd later, though. She closes her eyes for a moment to try to rest, but suddenly her eyes open again and focus directly on the doctor. She’s clearly grateful, but worried now, too.*

…what do I owe you for this? I don’t have many coins, but I can fix just about anything mechanical… don’t know how much that’s worth here.

[Megumi proffers her a genuine smile.] You don’t owe me anything, Amanda-san.

I just want you to recover properly now. Just rest.

Thank you, again.

[She smiles back at Megumi before laying down completely again and closing her eyes.]

…I’ll try to sleep for a while… now that the adrenaline’s worn off, I feel like I just ran about ten miles without a break.

Yes, all of what's happened has a tendency to make one feel that way . . . Especially you, as you are injured.

Yes. Just sleep.
