Oxegen update:

In a nutshell: camping sucked, music was awesome, travel was, well it was travel what can you do. All in all: Awesome Weekend.

It rained starting on Friday and on and off constantly throughout the weekend. Consequently, it was HELLA muddy, but Barry's mom saved the weekend by sending wellies up for me with Aisling. And not the retarded kind with polka dots or stripes, just plain old red wellies. Without them I would have been one sad festival goer.

Camping pretty much sucked as within the first two hours of being there I was already covered in mud and still had no tent, as they kept sending us round other places to pick up the damn thing, but once we got it it was easy to pitch and kept us dry. In the end we left it for the Africans. Indeed.

The music started on Saturday at one with The Cribs and ended Sunday after midnight with The Killers, both of them were totally awesome and in between I saw some other amazing bands. I won't bore you with all the details unless you want me to, but I saw Klaxons, The Kooks, The View, Director, Muse, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Jamie T, David Kitt, Bloc Party, The Arcade Fire, Scissor Sisters, Interpol, The Bravery, Avril Lavigne (from afar...), CSS, The Saw Doctors, Babyshambles. Probably some other things. The best thing I think was Klaxons, the worst probably The Kooks (not to mention the fact that they have a stupid name, seriously you might as well just sit home and listen to their cd, then at least you wouldn't have to look at them). Most of the sets were fantastic, my favorites were Scissor Sisters, Bloc Party, Babyshambles and Director (besides the Killers, Cribs and Klaxons, as aforementioned)

The worst thing to happen to me the whole weekend was having to chose between Daft Punk and The Killers for the Sunday headliner, so I'd count the trip as a win. I chose The Killers for sentimental reasons, though I'm fairly certain Daft Punk probably puts on a better show, but they'll be in London again sometime I'm sure. I have Ireland-specific memories for probably every song on the Hot Fuss album and I think Sam's Town most accurately describes how I feel about my life at this point, there's really nowhere else I'd rather see them. Actually, I'm not sure how good The Killers were, I just know I had a really good time and they were really happy to be there.

I also managed to forget in the two years I've been away how much I really enjoyed living in Ireland and why. Spending a couple of days in Cork City was great, though I would have preferred to make the rounds to Dublin and Limerick to see people, but it just wasn't in the cards this trip. Hanging out with Niall and his girlfriend Orla was great, as was hanging out with Aisling. I miss my friends from Ireland and I also miss living there, but I'm definitely more suited to England, or at least London. But I couldn't help but agree with Brandon Flowers as he greeted the crowd on Sunday night: "It's great to be home."
