Character death - which one did you like most?

So. We've been discussing character death to exhaustion since CoE aired. Was it good, was it horrible, was it necessary, was it satisfactory, and so on.

I have no idea how many of you will reply to this post, but it anyone feels like it, I'd very much like to know.

What is your favorite character death from all time? And why? I don't mean it like character A was becoming annoying or getting in the way of the story and it was good that it got cut out. I mean it like, I liked this character, and I thought his death was really well done for this or that reason. Doesn't matter at which point in the show he or she or it was killed - beginning, middle, or at the grand finale.

Ianto's obviously doesn't count. ;P

Edit:

Sam Tyler, on Life on Mars. By far, my favorite character death ever.

The whole show is fucking brilliant, but the last episode is just amaaaazing. I wanted it to have ended right after he jumps from the top of the building. I think that last part softened a little the impact of his death. But still, brilliant. Everything that happened in that episode, Frank Morgan, the betrayal, everyone getting shot to death, him waking up in the Hyde Ward, and then feeling nothing, it was just... It was motherfucking awesome, is what that was. The last scene, with the song, and then Sam running and jumping from the building, was amazing. I loved Sam. There's nothing I wanted more than to have had him back for a thousand of other seasons, to show up in Ashes to Ashes, and so on. But dude... It was beautiful. Just beautiful. It made so much sense, the build-up was so perfect, and so clever, that it just couldn't have ended any other way.

I love Life on Mars. <3
