plumbing update

Today is evidently the day when all my questions are answered. On my way down for lunch, I shared an elevator with a woman from the office across the hall from the women's washroom. Apparently a water pipe under one of the sinks burst around 2 a.m. yesterday and sprayed water for hours, flooding the bathroom, their office, the office next door (a lawyer -- just moved in) and all the way down the hall. It also leaked down to the floor below us, which happens to be occupied by part of our IT department -- I haven't heard anything about any catastrophes, and obviously the computer system's working so it can't have hit anything vital, but yikes!

This woman said they brought in a giant pump to suck up all the water, and carpet shampoo (apparently the place smelled really weird, despite the fact that it should have been clean water -- still, who knows what's been lurking in the carpet?), and a giant fan to dry everything off. And this morning I ran into the plumber, who was here to fix things. So, drama!

Although come to think of it this still doesn't explain why the toilet was off its mooring. Hm.

[Edit: Is anyone else getting this really stupid error from LJ, wherein it sometimes posts entries at Universal Standard Time and then chides you when you try to post the next one "earlier"?]
