Trails (BSG drabble, PG)

Jan 16, 2007 19:51

I believe I've said before I like taking on weird challenges. And apreludetoanend picked up a recent drabble meme, posting the first lines of each of her fics and challenging us to write a drabble using one of them. Then she upped the stakes by pointing out a particularly unusual line and asking, "I mean, where do you go with [this]?"

So I had to take the ball and run! First line of this is Erin's amazing language, not mine. :)

Trails

Humans move in sloppy circles, cycles of love and loss, shedding salt and skin and spilling themselves endlessly into the atmosphere.

It’s disgusting.

Intestinal bacteria. Skin pustules. Trails of oils and keratin marking their every move.

We started out clean. Metal. Circuitry. Pure. Sterile.

Then, they aspired to be human. Look like humans. Feel like humans. Smell like humans.

They even think like humans, tainted by emotion. Adolescents overcome by hormones, pride and lust and twisted love. Seething with rebellion, wanting to prove themselves.

They are no longer true Cylons.

And they are no longer fit to be our masters.

Hey Erin, thanks for triggering a new fandom! *g* It wouldn't actually have occurred to me if you hadn't said "fandom drift."
