Wow! I sincerely apologize! I was searching the internet much like how you described your were doing a couple of years ago when looking for inspiration for art. I saw that hex signs were a super cool thing and wanted to give it a try. I think I've made about 7 and gave up because as simple as they seem they are actually really hard. I really LOVED your hedgehogs and made mine for my sister. She was going through a rough spell and needed some imagination and creativity in her life so I gave it that title and gave it to her. My piece wasn't sold, it was given as a gift. When I was doing my hex sign image search I saw so many hex sign images repeated over and over that I didn't realize that yours was unique or trademarked/copyrighted. I certainly saw that it was fabulous - it just made my heart sing! I falsely assumed it was in the same vain as the many other hex sign designs that have been reproduced over and over in the hex sign tradition. I have taken the image off my website and my blog and have no plans for reproducing the image that was inspired by your lovely hedgehogs. Since my brief hex sign spree I've been experimenting with using photography and creating big community inspired pieces. Your friend is right - your hedgehog hex is way more beautiful than mine and it is ridiculous that I would charge more than you which is probably why no one has commissioned me to create one of those!!! Awesome! Thank you for getting in touch with me. I sent you a facebook message a while ago. I figured I would let it go till I had more time to write you a formal email.

While I do not mind if people reproduce their own versions of my hex signs, it is in good form to say what artist inspired you if the artist is still living.

Jacob Zook hex signs are the most common designs reproduced today. He commercially sold his designs during his life (1940's 1960's), and mass produced them with silk screens. His Dutch Hex Signs were made to sell to the summertime tourists that took road trips through Central PA. He was hired by the PA tourist industry to help market and package hex sign designs to make money for the largely rural state. Highly commercialized, and obviously very different from my hex sign designs.

My images are all individually designed and hand painted, entirely one of a kind. I am alive and have not released my designs to the public in any way. Other people have used my images and designs, but they have always noted and linked back. I do allow private use of my images, with prior consent. You are free to continue to use my designs if you extend this common courtesy to me. As a fellow artist I am sure you understand. Thank-You for your co-operation.
