There are still people going around and ripping flags and stuff off cars and balconies, though, claiming 'people displaying a german flag means they are nazis' I actually heard it outside my window last week, because the house across has a bunch of flags out the windows.
Go to the US and you have flags lining the streets all year long. They don't even need a reason.
It is kind of sad that we get damned for even the slightest bit of patriotism when most people from back then aren't even alive anymore.
But we're world champions! And we deserve this *nods*
hee, yeah, I say, as long as you enjoy yourself and do it with your own money, have at it :)
Let me guess, those were germans? The average number of pessimists and thickheads is still way too high in this country... *sigh* Oh well. I was thinking more of the international reaction, I can remember headlines like "oh, they know how to celebrate!" :-)
It was actually a mix. The ones with the flags on the cars were German as far as I know, the ones on the street outside my window definitely were not.
I admit, I never really paid attention to that (how we supposedly celebrate), aside for when they have scenes playing in Germany on US tv shows and we look like we're all Bavarians from the 80s, listening to 80s music :D
LOL! Maybe that's what we should do then! I'm crossing my fingers that this attitude is slowly dying out! And I totally don't have the live ticker from Berlin Fanmeile open at work and watch the flag waving... nope... ahem...
Geez, me too! It was just last season, I think, on NCIS. And I was like 'ARE YOU SERIOUS?!' No wonder people think we have a curfew still and no electricity :D
I'm serious, I was told Germany has a curfew and rationed electricity. Just a few years ago.
Hehe, did they make it? All I heard on the radio was how they were stuck in a sea of people :D
I guess you maybe saw it already on TV, but yes they did! :-) I can remember 25 years ago, some people from my school going to America to some partner town, and they got asked if we had a moon. Seriously. I thought it might be better now, but apparently not. *headdesk*
