systems thinking

i think i may have finally found it. the whole reason why i started this job was to get some direction and inspiration for what i want to do with the rest of my life. i never expected to work for a market economist, yet at the same time, so many of his arguments make sense and i've seen the direct application of our programs (which relfect his market-driven theories) that working here and seeing what happens in the real world - vs. abstract, theory based idealism - has only shattered my understandings of development and forced me to put them back together into a loose conclusion that "it's just mroe complicated than that."

well, i still think it is, but a workshop i sat in today, held by the foundation's environmental programs director (who doesn't get taken as seriously here as the governance, law and econ guys - for shame!) really inspired me to seek more pointed direction with all this.

it's the end of the day and my brain is fried, but this week has been the most productive and gratifying i've had in forever. cheers to that.
