dumb supper

well, its the time of year for sharing food with the dead--- and i just saw (online) a witch who is planning a "yummy vegan feast" with veggie "meatballs!"
(as if the dead couldn't tell the difference!)

i find it crazy making! i take great care to either fix The favorite foods of friends and family JUST as they like them, or for the Old ones, i keep everything plain--just, *food*.(fruit, nuts, meat). The Idea that someone would deprive their ancestors of meat at the one meal a year they probably get, just because it doesn't fit with some newage notion!----when i was a vegetarian, Samhain was the One meal a year i had meat for!---the old ones had to make do with jerky--(or fish, or cheese) the rest of the year.

i also held a 'meet your meat' ritual one year at samhain, people could come, and pet the lamb we ate the next night. No one was forced to come---two vegetarians Did, to reinforce their choice, i think, --it was quiet and solemn.
life feeds on life, (plants dont want to be ripped from the ground, you know; trees, though sleeping, have nightmares at pruning time--) there is no escaping Anna,
no tricking her.
perhaps she had a vegan great-aunt, or something, but i doubt it----to me, it "smells" like the mormons who posthumously 'convert' their--(and in some cases therefore, My) relatives when they can no longer object.(to 'normal' people)
i find the vegetarian thing to be a personal choice,(though based on,I think, false logic) not one to be forced on others.
Yahhh! Ranting!
