The shifter in my car has been a bit finnicky since I bought it. It was no bog deal, since it always shifted and got me where I needed to go. Today I shifted into reverse, backed up, and when I went to shift into first, the shifter went limp in my hand, flopping back and forth with no resistance.
Luckily, I was at work and had internet access. Got on google and found out that it's normally a broken shifter bushing that causes that- basically the shifter lever gets disconnected from all the other transmission stuff when that happens.
A minute later, with the help of a screwdriver, the center console was removed and the broken bushing was confirmed. Luckily, it's a $15 fix. The bad part is that I have to order the part off ebay, because Saturn only sells whole shifter assemblies.
Worst part is, paypal isn't working for me at the moment.
