Sometimes I think about conformity and the act of acceptance. In personal terms, I look at people who go to church or who repeat slogans they've heard off of the television and I wonder about the content of those peoples' characters. Are they unintelligent? Am I being egotisitical when I consider myself superior to someone who won't question the status quo? Someone who won't look for fault in the traditional worldview that has been handed down to them by their elders? Someone who won't distrust the explanations of authority figures? Am I really that much different? The world is more comfortable for somebody who doesn't ask questions, but does that really make me better than them? After all, just because someone is ignorant or conformist doesn't necessarilly make them a lesser person.
Then I end up talking with one of them and I realize: Yes, I am fucking superior.
