The BBC has published some pictures a "Western businessman" has taken in North Korea. As any information, pictures and otherwise, of North Korea are pretty rare, I though I'd post the
link.
Also, Governor Schwarzenegger has denied
clemency to
Stanley "Tookie" Williams. For anyone who hasn't hear about it... Tookie Williams was a founding member of the Crips gang in LA in the 1960s has been in jail for 24 years for the murder of four people in 1979. Since going to jail, he has become an anti-gang spokesperson. He has written a number of anti-gang books for youth, participated in anti-gang public initiatives, and has received several Nobel Peace Prize nominations for this work denouncing gang violence.
Prisons are, these days, called correctional centres. There's all sorts of lip service about how society values forgiveness, redemption, and the chance to change and start again. So for once these correctional facilities do their job and a person has been corrected. Killing him only says that there is no room for change and no hope for choosing a different life and so you may as well stay in your gangs because there really is nothing else for you. And, of course, it's one more murder.
