frequently asked questions  ❖

Q: Where is my character?

A: In El Dorado! It's a small city suspended in the sky. All inhabitants will live in one main building (in spacious suites, decorated to fit their personalities), but are free to venture out to the NPC owned (or player owned, by request) businesses. Keep in mind that there's no money, so everything is free.

Q: Is the city made of gold? I saw a movie like that...

A: No, the city is not made entirely of gold. However, gold is the accent of choice in El Dorado, and all of the buildings have gold accents on them and in them. No solid gold toilets will be found, but decorations, such as gold accents on fireplaces, will be rather obvious. And genuine. Don't steal.

Q: Why is my character here?

A: Your character is here because the Gods took an interest in him/her. Aren't they special?

Q: Can they leave?

A: No! But if you quit, they will disappear, and most likely go home. If you have a character who wants to explore all points of El Dorado, that's fine. They'll just end up walking in circles after they reach a certain area.

Q: Can they die?

A: Sure they can, but two things need to happen first: 1) You need to clear the death with the mods. 2) You need to be willing to give up something that belongs to the character. It can be something physical such as a treasured watch, or something as complicated as memories of a specific person. They will remain dead for five days and then wake up perfectly healthy with their memories intact.

Q: What kind of characters will be accepted in El Dorado?

A: Any, provided that when a real face is not given (comics/anime/games), the writer can provide one. We would like the character to have about five icons of a real person chosen by their writer.

Q: Who is doing this to them?

A: The Gods. Specifically, Chiminigagua (the force of creation), Bachué, Cuza, Chibchachum, Bochica, and Nemcatacoa.

Q: Why are the Gods doing this?

A: Because they want to monitor who goes in and out of El Dorado very closely. Seriously. They are guarding this city and the people in it, and it's easier to do that if the city is too high to reach. (Why did your mom put the cookie jar on top of the refrigerator?)

Q: What's a 'prank'?

A: A prank is something that you can arrange to happen to your character that they would not like. Example: The Gods were bored and decided that Bruce Wayne will have no memories of his life as Batman for a week.

Q: What is a 'reward'?

A: A reward is something that you can arrange to happen to your character that they would like. Example: Your character finds her long missing engagement ring on top of her desk one morning.

Rewards don't have to be physical. They can be memories, inspiration, or new knowledge if you'd like.

Q: Do pranks and rewards need to be cleared with the mods?

A: Nope, not anymore.

Q: What happens if I break a rule?

A: The moderators will discuss the situation and vote on how to proceed. Repeated rule breaking will result in forced hiatus situations or even removal of characters in game. Small things will get you a slap on the wrist.

Q: What can my character do in El Dorado?

A: Your character may take a job in the city, chill out around the house, pick up a few hobbies, or just go around looking for trouble. We will also have events for them to participate in from time to time, though none of those will be mandatory.

Q: What are your rules regarding canon-bumping?

A: You may canon-bump your characters as often as you need to.

Q: What is the climate like?

A: El Dorado has the typical twenty-four hour clock. It also has the seasons of Earth: spring, winter, fall and summer. The game has started in winter. Weather can be decided on posts, just make sure it matches the season. Weather might also change due to an event.

Q: What year does El Dorado take place in?

A: All characters were brought to the year 2010, regardless of what year they existed in back home in their universe. El Dorado's calendar is two days behind the real world to accommodate for holidays.

Q: My character wants to damage city property. Can he/she?

A: Yep. And remember that damage to buildings in El Dorado is repaired very quickly.

Q: How are activity checks performed?

A: By roll call every couple of months.

Q: Can I apply for an original character?

A: Yes.

Q: What about fandom OCs?

A: Fandom OCs will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We're open to anything, but we need to consider how some characters would impact their canonmates before we make any decisions. However, if you have the okay from all of their canonmates, go for it.

Q: What about AU characters?

A: Sure, bring them in!

Q: What about characters who aren't human?

A: Cool! Just...no talking animals, please. Mister Ed was the greatest talking equid of all time. If the character has any specific weaknesses to the setting (for example, a vampire cannot go out in natural sunlight), then they will also have them in El Dorado.

Q: When do I have to cut an entry?

A: When you start wondering about whether or not your entry should have a cut on it, it probably should.

Q: What is the mod email?

A: eldoradomods[at]gmail[dot]com

Q: Is that it?

A: For now. Check back later, we can always think up more boring things to say!
